  • Graduation requirement established by NC DPI
  • Performance-based exit assessment which
    demonstrates students mastery of specific skills
  • The project has 4 components a paper, a product,
    a presentation and a portfolio
  • The project should be a learning stretch for the
    student
  • Students explore and investigate a topic of
    interest
  • The topic must be narrowed down to an essential
    question that can be addressed in a research
    paper
  • Each student is assigned to a faculty coach to
    guide them through deadlines
  • The entire project will be reviewed by a panel of
    faculty members and community volunteers during
    their senior year

REGISTRATION TIMELINE
  • March 5 students can go on SPAN to register for
    courses for 08-09
  • March 17 signed registration form is due to
    current math teacher or Mrs. Stiffler
  • April TBD course verification form is given to
    students with their 8 primary courses and 3
    alternates for corrections/changes
  • June 25 last day to make changes

PSAT
  • PSAT-previously released SAT test
  • Given at AHS in October
  • Free to all juniors
  • 10 for sophomores who sign up
  • Students receive a test booklet, a profile sheet
    with the correct answers, the students answers,
    and suggestions for improvement

SAT ACT Tests
  • SAT and ACT scores are used by colleges as a
    uniform comparison and one piece of data when
    making admission decisions.
  • Students can take the test multiple times (43
    each time) and most colleges will accept your
    highest score on each individual section.
  • All 4 year schools expect to see a score, and
    many will use the scores for placement.
  • Not required for community colleges
  • (used for placement if taken)

  • Cost basic fee 20 additional fee for each
    test
  • Generally taken senior year or close to the
