2Dig For Victory
- The Dig for Victory campaign was launched by
the government to encourage the public to grow
their own vegetables. Parks and every spare bit
of land was dug up to make way for vegetables

3Dr Carrot Potato Pete
- Dr Carrot and potato Pete were introduced by the
Ministry of Agriculture in October 1939. - Nursery rhymes were adapted to fit with the
Potato Pete theme.

7The Womens Timber Corps
- The womens timber corps was similar to the
WLA(Womens Land Army). It was set up to make pit
props. - Pit props were important for mining.

- The Womens Land Army (WLA) was made up of girls
from every walk of life . It was hard work ,
homesickness was common . Many missed there
parents as they lived miles away . - The WLA was nick-named the forgotten army.

- The land army had 80,300 members by December
1943. - A usual earning of a land girl was one pound 8
shillings (1.40) a week. - Many said that their uniforms were awful
- Their accommodation was poor.
