  • December 27, 2003 NO. 10 SAINT JOSEPH'S TOPS
    PACIFIC, 73-55 PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The Pacific
    men's basketball team suffered a 73-55 loss at
    No. 10 Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Dec. 27. With
    the loss, the Tigers fell to 4-6 on the season.
    Saint Joseph's improved to 9-0 and continued its
    best start since 1964-65.Pacific trailed by
    eight, 35-27, after a highly competitive first
    half. The Tigers remained within striking
    distance throughout much of the second half as
    well. After Saint Joseph's built a 44-33 lead
    with 1529 remaining, the Tigers went on a 9-3
    run to cut the deficit to 47-42. The Hawks built
    their lead back up to 59-47 with 652 remaining
    and put the game out of reach with three-pointers
    by Dwayne Lee and Chet Stachitas in the closing
    minutes.Sophomore Christian Maraker (Varberg,
    Sweden) led Pacific's offensive attack with a
    team-high 15 points in the game. Junior Tyler
    Newton (Burbank, Calif.) was the only other Tiger
    in double figures in scoring with 11
    points.Delonte West poured in a game-high 22
    points for Saint Joseph's.Despite outshooting the
    Hawks .412-.391 on the afternoon, Pacific was
    plagued by 18 team turnovers.Pacific returns to
    the Alex G. Spanos Center for a non-conference
    contest against Cal State Stanislaus on Tuesday,
    Dec. 30, at 7 p.m.
