Brief History of the package
  • Initial scoping (Phase1) conducted by ATA and
    sent to ANTA June 2003
  • In limbo for 2 years due to ISC negotiations
  • ANTA/DEST appointed external consultants June
    2005 to undertake review
  • DEST contracted ATA to provide secretariat
    support services only
  • Consultants completed package and sent to DEST
    Nov 2006 for endorsement

  • Package in limbo 11 months
  • (November 2006 to October 2007)
  • June 2007 DEST contract ATA to establish a
    continuous improvement standing committee and
    redevelop the package
  • October 2007 DEST completed a quality audit of
    package
  • November 2007 to March 2008 ATA and Precision
    Consulting redeveloped the package in line with
    current guidelines

    editing
  • Completed package sent to DEEWR June 2008
  • STA evaluation and MINCO approval processes
  • October 6 2008 AUM 08 endorsed

  • AUM08 covers Passenger Motor Vehicle
    Manufacturers (PMV) Bus Truck Trailer
    Manufacturers (BTT) and some Component
    Manufacturers
  • The PMV sector is made up of Toyota, GM Holden,
    Ford and suppliers. PMVs employ approx 14,500
    people

  • The BTT sector has 3 main commercial vehicle
    manufacturers - Iveco, Volvo and Paccar
  • Bus and coach manufacturers and assemblers
  • Trailer/Tanker manufacturers

Continuous Improvement
  • A Continuous Improvement Standing Committee
    (CISC) was established in 2007
  • Comprises PMV, BTT, component, union, STAs,
    RTOs, CRC representatives
  • Ensures the currency of the package
  • Design Improvement Register (DIR) established on
    the ATA web site
  • Anyone can provide input into the future
    development or revision of the package via the
    DIR

Future Needs
  • As the industry moves towards vehicles containing
    higher proportion of electronic components and
    software the knowledge and skill to design
    develop, manufacture, maintain and repair follows
  • In 2007 there were 300 new jobs created in
    Automotive Development

  • The convergence of economic, social and
    environmental forces will challenge the
    automotive industry to change
  • It is an exciting time to be part of an industry
    that has the challenge of providing one of our
    most basic needs - SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
