  • Operating System is the set of computer

User Interfaces
  • The goal of an effective user interface is to be
    user friendly. This means the software can be
    used easily by individuals with limited training.
  • A graphical user interface (GUI) is a user
    interface that displays graphics in addition to
    text when it communicates with the user.
  • A mouse is a pointing device used with windows
    vista that may be attached to the computer by a
    cable or may be wireless.
  • Point means you move the mouse across a flat
    surface until the mouse pointer on the monitor
    rests on the item of choice.
  • Click means you press and release the primary
    mouse button, which in most cases is the left
    mouse button.

    programs, which are programs that perform a
    specific function such as word processing.

    operating system that performs every function
    necessary for you to communicate with and use the

  • Windows Vista offers two different GUIs

    Vista basic interface.
  • Computer with more than 1 GB of RAM can work
    also with the Windows Aero interface, which

The Windows Vista Desktop
  • A menu is a list of related items, including
    folders, programs and commands.
  • A menu command performs a specific action, such
    as searching for files or obtaining help.
  • The start menu allows you to access programs and
    files on the computer and contains commands that
    allow you to connect to and browse the Internet,
    start an email programs, start application
    programs, store and search for documents,
    customize the computer and obtain help on
    thousands of topics.

Folder Windows
  • Folder windows are the key tools for finding,

  • The 3 buttons to the left of the address bar
    allow you to navigate the contents of the left
    pane and view recent pages.
  • The previous locations button saves the locations
    you have visited and displays the locations using
    computer path names.
  • The refresh button refreshes the contents of the
    right pane of the computer window

  • The command bar contains 5 buttons used to
    accomplish various tasks on the computer related
    to organizing and managing the contents of the
    open window.

  • For column heads displayed in the right pan allow
    you to sort and group the enteries below the
    column header.
