- User interface is the combination of hardware and
software that you use to communicate with and
control the computer. - The monitor displays messages and provides
information. - The keyboard and mouse are used to enter data in
the form of a command or other response using an
input device.
5User Interfaces
- The goal of an effective user interface is to be
user friendly. This means the software can be
used easily by individuals with limited training. - A graphical user interface (GUI) is a user
interface that displays graphics in addition to
text when it communicates with the user. - A mouse is a pointing device used with windows
vista that may be attached to the computer by a
cable or may be wireless. - Point means you move the mouse across a flat
surface until the mouse pointer on the monitor
rests on the item of choice. - Click means you press and release the primary
mouse button, which in most cases is the left
mouse button.

- Windows Vista is used to run application
programs, which are programs that perform a
specific function such as word processing. - A client is a computer connected to a server
- A server is a computer that controls access to
the hardware and software on a network and
provides a centralized storage area for programs,
data and information.

- Windows Vista Ultimate (Windows Vista) is an
operating system that performs every function
necessary for you to communicate with and use the
computer.

- Windows Vista offers two different GUIs
- Computer with up to 1 GB of RAM work with Windows
Vista basic interface. - Computer with more than 1 GB of RAM can work
also with the Windows Aero interface, which
provides an enhanced visual experience designed
for windows vista, including additional
navigation option and animation.
9Starting Windows Vista
- A user account identifies to windows vista which
resources a person can use when using the
computer. - A user name identifies the person to Windows
Vista - A password is a string of letters, numbers, and
special characters, which is used to restrict
access to a user accounts resources to only those
who know the password.

disk. - The shutdown command is used to shut down and

current weather information, news up-dates,
traffic information, and internet radio streams.
