Question When do I get my teachers
name? Answer You will receive your teachers
name in the mail around August 18th. Question
Who are the 5th Grade Teachers? Answer The
fifth grade teachers are divided into three
teams G Team- Miss Hillman and Mrs. Marro O
Team- Ms. Knorr and Mrs. Ladonis B Team- Miss
Hockenbroch, Mr. Hite, and Mrs. Rynhart

Question How will we find our way around the
building? Answer At orientation you will be
given a tour and if you get lost you can ask a
teacher for help! Your teacher will also walk
you where you need to go on the first couple days
of school. Question What kind of books are in
the library? Answer Our brand new library is
going to be filled with lots of books. There are
fiction selections and there are also
non-fiction and reference materials as well as
a variety of magazines and other periodicals.

Question Who can help me find my room? Answer
Any staff member you see will be willing to help
you find your way around the building
and you will be able to help anyone
else who is lost in no time! Question Do we
have to go to lunch and/or recess with older
kids? Answer No! This year fifth graders will
eat lunch together and have recess together so
it will be a great time
to catch up with your friends who are in
different classes.

Question When is lunch? Answer Lunch for
fifth grade is at 1100. Question Do we have
study halls? Answer Fifth graders do not have
study halls but from 8 830
there is a common time where students can work
on things if they dont have
band or chorus.

Question When will I find out who else is in my
classes? Answer You will receive your
teachers name in the mail around the 18th of
August. You can call your friends after that to
see what teacher they have and when you come to
orientation you will be able to see who else is
in your class. Question Are the teachers
nice? Answer The fifth grade teachers are the
NICEST TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT!

Question Is there an orientation? Answer 5th
grade orientation is August 20th. Question
Can 5th graders have salad bar? Answer Yes,
salad bar is a lunch option everyday.

Question What is the dress code for 5th
grade? Answer You will receive a student
handbook planner on the first day of school and
it will include lots of
information regarding the rules, including the
dress code. Question Will we get a building
tour before we have to start school? Answer
Yes, all students and parents who attend the
orientation will get a building tour.

Question Do fifth graders have lockers? Answer
Fifth graders have lockers right outside their
classrooms. All students will
have Phys. Ed lockers also. Question How can
fifth graders personalize their lockers? Answer
Nothing permanent can be placed in lockers. You
may use magnetic mirrors and/or other
personalized items that do not
damage the lockers in any way.

Question Are there water fountains in our
classroom and if not where are the closest water
fountains? Answer There are water fountains
located near all restrooms but there are no water
fountains in the classrooms. Question How
many students will be in my classes? Answer
Classes will usually have between 22 and 25
students in them.

Question Do I have to take home all of my books
every night? Answer No, you only need to take
home books that you need to complete your
homework. Question Can you wear tank tops if
you wear a sleeved top or
sweater over it. Answer Yes, as long as you
leave the sleeved top on until you get home from
school.

Question Are short-sleeved tops considered
tank tops? Answer No. Question When can I
go to my homeroom after I arrive at
school? Answer Students report to homerooms
when they arrive.

Question How will you know if you are in the
right class? Answer You will want to check
your schedule when you arrive at your classroom.
Your schedule will tell you the name of your
teacher and the room number. If you are at the
wrong class, the teacher will help you find the
correct class. Question What time does school
end? Answer 230 pm.

Question If you have a brother or sister in the
middle school, will you get to see them any time
in the school day? Answer You may have a
chance to see your brother or sister in the hall
sometime during the school day. Question Can
you get extras at lunch? Answer Yes, but you
have to have extra money to pay for them and you
must eat everything you take first.

Question Where are the fifth grade
rooms? Answer The fifth grade rooms are on the
right hand side of the building if you are
looking toward the elementary
school. You will have a chance to see the
classroom locations when you come to
orientation! Question How much homework do
fifth graders get? Answer Students should
expect 50 minutes of homework per night. This is
an excellent guide for you to follow. If you
find that you are spending more time than that
you or your parent should contact the guidance
office.

Question If my friend is in a different class,
will I get to see them? Answer At lunch you
can sit with whoever you like and all 5th graders
have recess together after lunch. Question
What time does school start in the middle
school? Answer Students must be in their
homeroom by 755 am.

Question If I am a pick up where do I go after
school? Answer You do not need a note when you
are an after-school pick-up. Plan with your
parents where to
meet. Question Are there any sports for 5th
graders? Answer There are community based
sports and there is a swimming
program that is available for 5th grade
students.

Question Are there any extracurricular
activities for 5th graders? Answer
5th graders will represented in Student Council.
Every 12 cycle days there are
clubs. Question What supplies should I bring
to school? Answer It is a good idea to have a
backpack to start school. The district
provides many supplies and all
students will be given a
student planner.

Question Will there only be one special per
marking period? Answer Yes. Question How
big are the lockers? Do I need a lock for the
locker? Answer The lockers are large enough
for your coat, backpack and school supplies.
Every student needs a lock for
his/her gym locker and your regular locker.
You may only use locks that are
purchased through the school. The locks cost
5 dollars and you will purchase
them through your gym teacher.

Question Do I need a binder? Answer You are
not required to have a binder but it can be
helpful in organizing
your classroom folders/materials. Question How
long is recess? Answer Lunch and recess lasts
for 30 minutes. When you are finished eating,
the recess supervisor will take you outside
for about 15 minutes. On days that
you dont have phys. ed. your teachers may
provide you with an extra
recess.

classes? Answer Most classes are 40-55
minutes long.

Question How do we know our class
order? Answer On the first day of school when
you report to homeroom, you will receive and
fill out your schedule. That
schedule will tell you the order that your
classes occur and when you are
supposed to change classes. Your teacher will
help you with this until you are comfortable.
They also will walk you to classes and lunch that
are outside of your regular area.

Question Do you ever have to share a
locker? Answer No Question Do 5th graders
get to go to dances? Answer There are 4 dances
that 5th graders can attend.

Question Who is my guidance Counselor Answer
Mrs. Gibble is your guidance counselor. Mrs.
Justice and Mr. Pete also are available when you
need them. Question Is there IPSD? Answer
No.

Question What should I do if someone is giving
me a hard time at school? Answer You should
tell your classroom teacher, your guidance
counselor and your parents right away so that
they can help you find a solution to the
conflict. If you tell someone
and the situation does not get better, make sure
you tell someone else and keep
telling people till you get the help you need.
Dont forget that Mr. Sharrow works
here too so you can always tell
him! Question Are there after-school
activities for 5th graders? Answer Some fifth
graders can participate in after-school tutoring.

chorus? Answer Yes Question Are there clubs
for fifth graders? Answer Yes

Question Is there a playground? Answer
There is an area for recess where you can walk
and talk with your friends or organize a game to
play. Question Can we still play dodge
ball? Answer There is a ball cage at recess
and you may get a ball and organize dodge ball or
any other game with your friends at recess.

Question When will we find out about
clubs? Answer During the 2nd week of school,
you will get a list of the clubs that will be
available and then you will sign up for your
first, second, third and fourth choices. Clubs
begin after fair week. Question How do you
leave the room if you have to go to the restroom?
Answer Every student receives a planner. When
you want to go to the restroom you sign out in
the planner and take it to your teacher. In some
classes you also take a pass with you to the
restroom.

Question Do I have art all year? Answer No.
You will have art for one marking period, music
for another, family and consumer science for
another and industrial technology for another
marking period. When you have each special
depends on what homeroom you are in. Question
Will we get yearbooks? Answer Yes

Question Are there assemblies at the middle
school? Answer Yes. Question Are there
field trips in 5th grade? Answer Yes.

Question If I dont like the middle school what
can I do? Answer You can talk to your
guidance counselor and you can join group with
Mr. Pete, Mrs. Justice, or Mrs.
Gibble. Question When can I go to the
library? Answer You can go to the library in
the morning and at other times during the school
day.

Question What should I do if I have to call my
mom? Answer You cant call home unless it is an
emergency. Your gym clothes are not
an emergency! Question Are we allowed to
have cell phones in school? Answer You should
not take your cell phone to school. If you do,
you must keep it in your backpack or locker. If
you get caught with your cell phone in school you
must give it to the office and your parents must
pick it up.

Question Is my lunch number the same as it was
in the elementary school? Answer Yes Question
When will we learn how to check our grades on the
computer? Answer Your teacher will be showing
you how to check your grades in the first few
weeks of school.

Question Is my library number the same or
different? Answer Your library number is the
same number you use in the cafeteria. Question
Do you pay extra for the salad bar? Answer No,
the salad bar costs the same as a regular lunch.
If you get a regular lunch and then want salad
bar, you would have to pay again.

Question Is there any equipment on the
playground. Answer There is not recess
equipment like at the elementary school. But
there is lots of room to run and play sports or
talk with your friends. Sometimes students
choose to stay in the cafeteria and talk with
friends. Question Do you have to have your coat
to go outside when it gets cold? Answer Yes.

Question If I forget my homework, can I come
back and get it? Answer Yes. You can return to
school until 330 to get things that you
forgot. Question How do you join student
council? Answer During the first few weeks of
school, each homeroom will pick representatives
for student council.
