Exploring the Web With Mr.Stick Figure
  • By
  • Brian

2
  • Once upon a time, there was a stick figure. His
name was Mr. Stick Figure. He lived inside a
computer. He was drawn by using little dots on
the computer monitor called pixels, just like
everything else on the computer. He liked to go
on the web or internet. He knew special tricks
for finding things on the computer, and where to
    go on the web.

3
Some things on the web are bad,
  • so he knew what to do and what not to do. Never
Ever go on the web without your parents saying
you can. Some things on the web are made to hurt
your computer or to do other bad things. Some of
these, viruses, break your computer, and spy ware
spies on your computer. Mr. Stick Figure knew
what are good things to do on the web and good
    places to go.

4
  • Mr. Stick Figure did not always know this. This
is the story of how he learned. So now I will
begin. When Mr. Stick Figure was little, before
they had good computer protection programs in
stick land, Mr. Stick Figure would run all over
    the web.

5
  • Then one day, some bad things were moving around
at a web sight. Mr. Stick Figures computer
protection was warning him it might be a little
dangerous to go to that web sight, but Mr. Stick
Figure went there anyway. There were bad things
there that broke his computer. Then he went to
school and learned about computer safety.

6
  • I will tell you a little bit about that. If
something pops up and says something like, Poke
the chicken and get a free video game or You
won! Click here to claim your prize, then DO NOT
CLICK IT. It is not like you would get a new
expensive video game for free. It is probably a
fake, a trick, or a trap. It could let something
bad on your computer, like a virus or spy ware.
Do not talk to strangers, unless your parents say
you can. Just like in real life. Finally, do not
go to any web sights without your parents
    permission.

7
  • You see, the web is like real life, except you
cannot see people so do not trust pictures for
what the people look like. People can put fake
pictures up and pretend that they are children.
They could also can be children and pretend that
they are adults. This is mean, but people do it
    nevertheless.

8
  • If you get to a bad website, close it and get
your parents. Also, DO NOT trust every thing you
see on the internet. Some people make up things
that are jokes. Other times they lie to trick
people, and sometimes they are just like
    storybooks like this.

9
  • Also, anyone who knows how can make a website. If
someone is willing to pay to put the website on
the Internet can as long as that person knows who
to send it to and what to do.

10
  • So you must be couscous on the internet because
you cant tell who made it and if it is lying or
it is made to put viruses and spy-ware on your
    computer.

11
  • Now back to the story. Mr. Stick Figure looked
at the guide on how to fix computers. Ask your
parents if you can go to it. You can find it at
Cybornaut too. He fixed his computer and then
decided to improve computer protection. He did.
He made better virus scan. He learned how in
school. Now in Stick Land they have good computer
    protection.

12
  • Mr. Stick Figure went to a website. It was
www.kids.gov. He liked it it is designed for
kids. If is about things like health, computers,
art, et cetera. He wants you to go to it. ASK
YOUR PARENTS IF YOU CAN FIRST.
  • He also reminds you not to click on any bad
things like I was talking about before.

13
  • Then Mr. Stick figure went to another website.
He saw it was bad, and the virus scan and
protection that he made it set an alarm and told
him to leave the website. He did.
Unfortunately, his dog pressed a button by
mistake and got a virus. Luckily his computer
virus scan located and destroyed the viruses.

14
  • He found another website that is good for
children, www.pbskids.org. If you have seen this
channel you probably have already been here.
Remember, ask your parents first you can go to
Zoom and see the prodjects they have, send them
information, and you can play games on other
places, and learn about the shows.

15
  • Also there is www.nickjr.com, with Dora, Blue,
Lazy Town, and all the others. Remember though,
ask your parents before you go. Dont forget
Noggin at www.nogin.com which is almost the same
thing, but you might not have heard of it before.
  • Also, Mr. Stick Figure went to
www.cybernaught.com, which I can tell you already
    know where that is.

16
  • Its time to take the quiz!
  • 1.   Why does stick lane have computer
    protection?
  • 2.   What are Mr. Stick Figures favorite sites?
  • 3.   What things should you not click on the
    Internet?
  • 4.   When should you go on the Internet?
  • 5.   Why is the Internet dangerous some times?
(As many reasons as you know)
  • 6.   Who can put things on the Internet?
  • The answers to these questions are in the story.
  • If you cannot answer these questions, reread the
    story.
