LRCs Catalogue
  • Whats a catalogue?
  • Catalogue is an electronic database system that
    contains bibliographic information on the LRCs
    collection. Users can search books, magazines and
    other materials hold at the LRC.

How to Access the Catalogue
  • Click Catalogue on the LRCs homepage

  • Or directly go to the URL http//192.168.111.1698
    080/opac 
  • Please note that LRC catalogue system currently
    is stored at UICs intranet server. On-campus
    access only!

Search the Catalogue- Search Options
  • Chinese and English two interface options are
    available.
  • Search books, search journals, and search for
    non-book materials options are designed for
    searching different type materials.

Tip Journals and non-book materials are
currently still under the development. There are
limited records on journals and non-book
materials in the catalogue system.

Search the Catalogue- How to conduct an
effective book search
  • To start your search, choose appropriate Type
    English Books or Chinese Books
  • Type your search terms in the search box and
    choose related search fields
  • Submit your search request.

Tip The system is not case sensitive. Management

Search Fields - Keyword
  • Any terms describe/identify your search
    topics/contents, including all search fields.
  • E.g. financial management
  • Tips Use quotes for phrases e.g. financial
    management
  • Use to truncate words
  • Use AND/OR/NOT to combine your search terms

Search Field - Title
  • Name of a book, journal and material
  • When the exact title of an item is known, enter
    the exact title or enter the first few words of
    the title. E.g. The analysis of linear models OR
    the analysis of linear
  • Some titles may include a sub-title which starts
    after the colon. If you choose Title search
    field, do not type subtitle.
  • E.g. The outbreak of the First World War who was
    responsible? Only type The outbreak of the First
    World War.

Search Field - ISBN
  • International Standard Book Number, a unique 10
    or 13 digital numbers assigned to the published
    book to identify the book.
  • E.g. 0-387-95475-9
  • Only enter the number without the hyphen in
    between. E.g. 0387954759

Tip For the photocopy edition of foreign books,
their ISBN may be different from the original
books ISBN.

Search Field - Author
  • The person/group/organization who is responsible
    for writing, editing and creating the
    publication.
  • To find items written by a particular author,
    enter the first name followed by the family name.
    E.g. Brian Fagan
  • Be aware of middle name. E.g. Brian Fagan Brian
    M. Fagan

Tips To obtain all items written by a same
author, only enter the family name in the search
box. For multiple authors, only enter one major
author.

Search Field - Subject
  • The terms describe the subject content of the
    book. Subject headings are a controlled
    vocabulary of special terms assigned to item
    records. E.g. Personnel management is used for
    HR.
  • Use subject searching for more precise results if
    you know the subject heading.

Tip Click on the Subject link on each full
record display screen to find similar topic
items.

Search Field Call Number
  • The numbers assigned to books. Book are shelved
    in call number sequence in the library.
  • The call number for Chinese books is always
    started with letter. E.g. B023 ???
  • The call number for English books always has
    three numbers to the left of the decimal. E.g.
    415.9 A69 Dewey Decimal Classification System ???

Tip Only enter the part before the decimal point
of the call number in the search box.

Understand the Search Results
Check the item to print its call number.
Click on the title or No. link to view the full
record.

Locate the Book from the Shelf

Loan Policy
  • Loan quota 4 items per time
  • Loan period

You can renew the borrowed item once, if no
request is placed on it.

Library Jargons
  • Course Reserve Books are stored at a special
    location for use in the library only, which are
    usually textbooks and key resources in heavy
    demand.
  • Overdue User does not return borrowed items on
    time.
  • Renew extend the loan period of a borrowed item.
  • Reserve request an item that has been issued to
    other users.

    fines and to renew items.

Tip Make change your personal password after you
