Title: Getting Into and Out Of Your Canoe.

1
Getting Into and (Out Of ) Your Canoe.
  • By Nick Guyer
  • FYP Skills presentation

2
Getting in the Canoe
  • When getting in put your foot down right next to
the keel, and follow this by putting your other
    foot down right beside it.

3
Staying Centered
  • First, you want to stay centered when trying to
    get into your canoe.
  • By keeping your weight as close to the center
line of the canoe as possible.

4
Keeping Your Weight Low
  • Then lower your butt into the canoe in order to
better your balance. Standing up will cause even
the biggest boats to become squirrelly and
    unstable.
  • Also try and grab each of the gunwales on either
side of the canoe. This will force and to stay
low and will help to steady the canoe.

5
Keeping your feet centered while exiting your
canoe.
  • When getting out of a canoe keep your trailing
foot centered, until your other foot is planted
    securely on the beach.

6
Stay low and centered when exiting the canoe.
  • When you are exiting the canoe make sure you keep
your belly button over the centerline of the
canoe, so it will not tip over.
  • Make sure you keep a low center of Gravity when
    exiting the canoe.

7
Miscellaneous
  • It is especially important to stay low in pack
canoes and other light, lean crafts. Larger boats
are more forgiving. In some larger crafts you can
even stand up and pace back and forth. But not
too many canoes are this stable! Big boat or
small, you can't go wrong if you stay centered.
    Better safe than sorry.

8
What can happen if you dont follow the
instructions on how to get in and out of your
canoe.
