  • Here it is in most of it's glory at the start.
    Like I usually do, I never snapped a before
    picture. I mocked it up with most of the original
    parts for this photo. How about that sissy bar?
    Big enough to carry a golf bag! Spoke wheels?
    They have to weigh close to 500 pounds! I will
    replace them with light stuff.
  • Way too much chrome! I will try to have none when
    done.

  • That chrome dash weighs about 6 pounds, I have
    new style master cylinder, switches and headlight.

  • Say goodbye to that ugly rear fender. Cheap
    aftermarket stuff has no place on this bike. A
    Dakota Digital speedo/tach unit will replace the
    stock one and will be mounted on the gas tank
    dash.

  • Way too busy up here. This will all be gone.

  • None of this stuff will be re-used. Chrome is too
    heavy and I don't like it. Forward controls might
    look cool but they don't work well when you like
    to go around corners fast.

  • Since I am updating to a twin cam, I am also
    going to use the new style starter. All of this
    can go.

  • In order to adapt the twin cam motor to the FXR
    trans, I made this adapter plate. This plate is
    available for Softails but not rubber mounted
    bikes. I made it out of 7075 aluminium and did
    all the designing and machine work here at
    Illinois H-D.

  • I chose to make this out of billet aluminium
    which allowed me to use the newer (larger)
    bearings and tie it into the motor plate to add
    rigidity.

  • All of the machining has been done on a manual
    Bridgeport milling machine. No CNC machines here.
