The Strengthening of Pelvic Floor Muscles with
Vaginal Cones an Established Therapy
  • In 2006, vaginal cones were included in the SOGC
Clinical Practice Guidelines as an effective
pelvic floor reeducation therapy for women with
    urinary stress incontinence.
  • Most women have difficulty doing pelvic floor
exercises (Kegel Exercises) because they do not
know how to contract the right muscles. Therefore
they do not obtain the expected results.
  • Vaginal cones were specifically designed to help
women contract only the proper pelvic floor
muscles through a reflex contraction or
biofeedback mechanism, which is triggered upon
insertion of the cone in the vagina.

3
  • When doing traditional pelvic floor exercises
without vaginal cones, a woman must actively and
repeatedly contract her pelvic muscles not
knowing if she is contracting the proper muscles.
She often has to seek help from a healthcare
    professional or physiotherapist.
  • One of the key benefits of vaginal cones is that
they target the proper pelvic floor muscles to be
contracted. When a cone is inserted in the
vagina, only these muscles contract automatically
around the cone to retain it. It is called
    biofeedback or passive contraction mechanism,
since contractions are not consciously triggered.
  • Once the cone is inserted, you can move around in
the house, walk and do your usual activities it
is part of the exercise. The cone will stay in
place with only a slight active contraction on
your part during the exercise session (15
    minutes, twice a day).

4
  • Once you feel you do not need to make hardly any
effort to retain the cone, you just move up to a
heavier cone to continue your LadySystem
therapy. While you progress throughout your
programme and move up from one cone to another,
you will feel improvement in the pelvic floor
    muscle tone.
  • This unique combination of passive and active
    contractions provided with the LadySystem
therapy increases the efficacy of the exercise
and produces results rapidly. Your pelvic floor
muscle tone builds up, the frequency of urinary
leakage episodes tapers down (e.g. when sneezing,
coughing or making an effort) and the urinary
    stress incontinence symptoms are eventually
    resolved.

What Women Using LadySystem Vaginal Cones Say
about this Pelvic Floor Reeducation Therapy
  • According to a recent survey, women using
LadySystem vaginal cones to exercise their
pelvic floor muscles described the benefits of
    this therapy as follows
  • It works fast
  • It is easy to use
  • It is discreet
  • It is light, gentle, soft

7
How LadySystem Works
  • The basic principle of the LadySystem therapy is
to exercise your pelvic floor muscles using a set
of vaginal cones of same size but of progressive
weight ranging from 4.9 to 55 grams.
  • The exercise consists in inserting a selected
cone into the vagina as explained in the
Information Leaflet. You can also view the video
    presentation on this website.

When you insert a cone in your vagina, the pelvic
floor muscles will instantly contract around the
cone to retain it. With only a slight effort of
active contraction on your part, keep moving and
doing your normal activities in the house for the
duration of the exercise period which should not
exceed 15 minutes, twice a day.
8
Outcome Benefits of the LadySystem Therapy
  • Exercising regularly with the LadySystem vaginal
cones as directed will gradually strengthen the
pelvic floor muscles and improve the opening and
    closing mechanism of your bladder.
  • The frequency of urine leakage will taper down
until the symptoms of urinary stress incontinence
    resolve or improve significantly.

9
Before the LadySystem Therapy Program
After the LadySystem Therapy Program
Weakened pelvic floor poor closing of the
bladder urine leakage
Stronger pelvic floor tight closing of the
bladder no urine leakage
