Deck Lighting Tips
  • If you have a deck around your home, you know
that if you want to use it at night, you will
need to install deck lights around it. These
lights will add safety and beauty to the exterior
of your home, and they will lengthen the amount
of time you will be able to be outside on your
deck. No longer will you have to go inside once
it gets dark, but your barbecues and pool parties
can continue on long into the warm summer nights.

2
  • Once you are aware that you need deck lights,
their selection and installation can seem
daunting. If you have some experience in
electrical wiring, though, you can put your own
low voltage lights around your deck. Should you
have any questions about how to choose or install
your lighting, then talk to an expert
electrician. He can help to walk you through the
steps necessary for selecting and installing your
light fixtures to brighten up your deck at night.

3
  • If you intend to put your own deck lights in by
yourself, then you will need to install low
voltage lights. There are many advantages low
voltage fixtures have over those with high
voltage. Low voltage uses less electricity. This
will save you money on your monthly electric
bills. The difference in bill costs between high
and low voltage lighting fixtures is especially
evident if you leave your lights on all night
long, as most residents do with their exterior
lighting. Another benefit is that the lower
amount of electricity required means that these
lights are safer for the layperson to install. If
you were to decide to put high voltage lights in
around your deck, then you would have to hire a
professional contractor to do the labor.

4
  • This is because high voltage shocks can kill. The
12 volts commonly used by low voltage deck lights
while giving you a jolt will not cause permanent
damage for an otherwise healthy person. This
means that with the right tools and lighting
supplies, coupled with a little knowledge, you
can have a new set of lighting around your deck
    in a single weekend.

5
  • There are many lighting options you could use
around your deck. If you would really like to add
a flair to the deck lights you have installed,
then you might want to think about an outdoor
rock speaker. These will allow you to have music
seamlessly integrated into the atmosphere of your
yard. No one will believe that the music is
coming from a rock. These are perfect for parties
when you might not want to have a stereo out on a
table where it could be knocked over or damaged.

6
  • Choosing and installing these lights is not
difficult to do if you have a basic knowledge of
electricity, but if you need assistance in
finding the best deck lights for your outdoor
project, it would be best to ask an expert who
will help to guide you through the steps for the
selection and installation of these dramatic
    lights.
