What is its name?
  • The Bogey Hole was first called the Commandants
    Baths
  • It was also called the Bogey Hole after the
    aboriginal word bungi meaning to bathe

Who built it?
  • The Bogey Hole was constructed in 1820.
  • It was built by convicts.
  • The convict boss Commandant Morisset ordered the
    Bogey Hole to be built.

Where is it?
  • The Bogey Hole is found at the bottom of
    Shepherds Hill in Newcastle.
  • Near King Edward Park

  • It was used as a swimming pool for Commandant
    Morisset.
  • In 1863 the Bogey Hole was given to Newcastle
    Council for everyone to use.
