Title: Photosynthesis summary

1
Photosynthesis
  • The Gateway of Energy into the Biosphere

2
Introduction
  • What is photosynthesis?
  • ?It is the food making process of autotrophs or
    the so-called producers.
  • ?It is the reason why other plants are greener
    than the others.
  • Others are greener because they have more
    chlorophyll.
  • ?It is the also the starting point of energy
transfer because the first energy is from the sun
and is transported to the plants because they are
captured by the chlorophyll, then, like in the
food chain, after the producer, the next is
consumer which is us, the heterotrophs.

3
Parts of The Leaf that are significant to
Photosynthesis
  • Cuticle-prevents water loss.
  • Stomata- entry and exit of gases.
  • Xylem-transport of water.
  • Phloem-transport of food.
  • Pith-encloses xylem and phloem.

Vascular tissues
4
Parts of chloroplast
  • Mesophyll cell-contains chloroplasts that is
    responsible for capturing light.
  • Spongy Mesophyll-loosely arranged cells.
  • Palisade Mesophyll-compactly arranged cells.
  • Granum(grana)- 2-100 thylakoids
  • Stroma
  • Inner membrane
  • Outer membrane
  • Thylakoids
  • Guard cell- protects the stoma.

5
Photosynthesis takes place in the leaf
  • Reactants
  • Light (sun)
  • Water(H2O)-12 molecules
  • Carbon dioxide(CO2)-6 molecules
  • Soil nutrients
  • Products glucose(C6H12O6)
  • Summary Equation
  • 1 glucose 6 oxygen 6 hydrogen

6
Light-dependent phase
  • Requirements Light water
  • (water is split and this process is called
    photolysis)
  • Product ATP NADPH
  • NADPH came from NAD and H
  • Waste Oxygen
  • (THYLAKOID-place of process)

7
Light-independent phase or Dark reaction
  • Requirements ATP NADPH CO2
  • Product glucose or (C6H12O6)
  • Waste NONE
  • (STROMA-place of process)
