1History of the Castrol Company
- A complete history of when Castrol started out in
1899 to the present day!
2Charles 'Cheers' Wakefield
- In 1899, Charles Cheers Wakefield founded the
company CC Wakefield Co Ltd. He first produced
the Wakefield Lubricator, used to lubricate the
axle of locomotive trains.
3Castrol Oil
It was in 1909 that CC Wakefield Co Ltd started
to produce their first Castrol product. It was
mixed with Castor oil and the logo that you see
above was first used in 1917.
4The 1920s
- The 1920s were important for Castrol. They
introduced this new logo in 1929 and the first
non-stop flight over the Atlantic, a new world
land speed record was set. All using Castrol Oil.
Castrol Oil just became the world's fastest oil.
5Post War Era
- Castrol remained relatively quiet during the
Second World War. Their oil was used on military
vehicles and after the war a new logo was
introduced in 1946.
6The 1960s
- In 1966, Castrol was purchased by Burmah and the
name changed to Burmah-Castrol and this new logo
was released in 1968. Castrol continued to
sponsor many things, from motor racing to land
speed records.
71970s - 2000
- Castrol continued to bring out new products and
sponsor various sports, from motorsport to
football. - The company also continued to operate world wide
and is now an instantly recognised global brand.
8The 21st Century
- In the year 2000 Castrol was purchased by BP Plc
and has continued to grow and grow. It now
operates under the name of Castrol and again is
instantly recognised the world over. You can see
their new and current logo below.
