• As a business owner, you know the importance of
  keeping your employees happy and productive, but
  you also need to attend to their practical needs.
  By having enough light inside your workspace, you
  can increase worker productivity, but only if you
  choose the right interior commercial lighting for
  the task at hand. While you want to offer bright,
  white light, you do not want to waste money on
  frequent bulb replacements or high energy costs.
  Certain types of lights are better suited for
  cost conscious interior commercial lighting need
  than others. Opting for these can help to lower
  your total operating costs and  in doing so, help
  boost your profits.

• Incandescent bulbs are the most commonly seen.
  These are popular for home and small business
  applications due to their very low cost per bulb.
  They also do not require special fixtures to
  install, just a typical screw in light bulb
  ceramic socket. If you have many lights for your
  business, though, these would not be a good
  option. While it may be very cheap to purchase
  the bulbs initially, when it comes to operating
  these over time, they are very inefficient when
  compared to other types of interior commercial
  lighting. Incandescent bulbs are also subject to
  a much shorter life span. This will require more
  frequent replacement purchases and bulb
  changings. Incandescents are best suited for home
  use, since there are much better choices for
  businesses.

• Energy efficiency for a low initial cost is very
  important when deciding on the lights you need
  for your company. If you just have light bulb
  sockets which are suited for screw in
  incandescents, you might want to take a look at
  halogen lights, 10,000 hour bulbs, or compact
  fluorescent bulbs. Halogen lamps and 10,000 hour
  bulbs are both technically incandescents. The
  difference is that halogens have a gas inside
  their bulb which regenerates the filament as it
  is lit. This greatly extends the life of the
  bulb. The problem with halogens is the intense
  heat that they can generate, so these might not
  be the best option for your interior commercial
  lighting if temperature is a factor. 10,000 hour
  bulbs are very energy efficient and easy to
  calculate energy savings. A non-incandescent
  screw in option is compact fluorescent lights.
  These are the same size as traditional light
  bulbs, but the bulb is a spiraled tube. Since
  they draw less power to generate the same amount
  of light, they will last longer, and lower your
  utility costs. These are the quickest and easiest
  way to replace the incandescents in you business.

• A better way to light larger areas is to use tube
  fluorescent lights. These will require special
  fixtures, but once they are put in replacing the
  bulbs and ballasts is a simple matter. Tube
  fluorescents are the most commonly used type of 
  interior commercial lighting. You can easily
  install several of these and operate them at much
  lower costs than the same amount of
  incandescents. Since these will be used for
  interior lighting, you will not have to worry
  about the quirks of fluorescents to not function
  in sub-zero temperatures. This can be overcome
  with special ballasts that can adapt these lights
  for below zero outdoor operation. Unlike interior
  commercial fluorescent lighting of the past,
  today's fluorescents no longer have the poor
  coloring or the flickering and humming which was
  so closely associated with them in the past.

• Energy efficiency should be a factor when you are
  deciding upon the types of interior commercial
  lighting you need for your business. This will
  help you to save on your operating costs over the
  long run.
