Kunlun Mountains
  • They are north of the Himalayas. Located in
    western China.
  • They are the source of the two of Chinas great
    rivers, the Huang He and Chang Jiang

  • Are in southeastern and east central China.
    These mountains divide the northern part of from
    the southern part.

Chang Jiang
  • AKA Yangtze River, is the longest river in Asia.
    It flows 3450 miles from Tibet to the East China
    Sea. The river has been a major trade route
    since ancient times.

Huang He
  • AKA Yellow River, it runs for 3000 miles from the
    Kunlun Mts. To the Yellow Sea. It gets its name
    from the yellow silt the river carries down
    stream. It is aka is Chinas sorrow because of
    its flooding.

Xi Jiang
  • AKA West River, flows eastward through southeast
    China. Eventually joins the Pearl river and
    flows into the South China Sea. Important
    minerals are located in its valleys

  • Is located in western China. It lies between the
    Tian Shan and the Kunlun mountains.

  • Is located in northern China and southeast
    Mongolia. It is a prime area for finding dinosaur
    fossils.

Tropical Zone
  • East Asia contains mainly wet climates. The
    primary vegetation region is rain forest. The
    tropical zone is small the island of Hainan and
    the southern tip of Taiwan.

  • Is along Mongolias and Chinas border with
    Russia. Summers are cool and the winters are
    brutally cold. It is usually dry

Three Gorges Dam
  • Is being built on the Chang Jiang River to help
    control the flooding. When completed it will be
    the largest Dam in the world. 600 feet high and
    over a mile wide.

Positive and negative issues of Dam
  • Control flooding
  • Generate electricity
  • Make it easier for ships to travel into interior
  • Between one million to two million will have to
    be relocated
  • Cost more then originally thought 11 billion now
    estimated to be 75 billion
  • Environmental many animals on the endanger list
    might not survive
