cliffs or steep slopes. - Characteristics of a fjord include
- 1. a narrow inlet,
- 2. a bottom that is glacially eroded
significantly below sea level (allowing
deep-draft vessels to navigate easily), - 3. steep-sided walls which continue to descend
below the sea surface - 4. communication with the open sea.

- An isthmus is a narrow strip of land that
is bordered on two sides by water and connects
two larger land masses. There are two notable
isthmus in Europe. - The isthmus of Corinth is the narrow land bridge
which connects the Peloponnese peninsula with the
