  • 1) Erasmus Mundus II (2009 2013)
  • The Erasmus Mundus Programme aims to
  • foster cooperation between Higher Education
    Institutions (HEI) and academic staff in EU and
    partner countries with a view to creating centres
    of excellence and providing highly trained human
    resources
  • contribute to mutual enrichment of societies and
    the development of well-qualified and
    internationally experienced human resources by
    promoting mobility for the most talented students
    and academics from/to EU and partner countries
  • improve accessibility of EU higher education
    partner countries nationals.
  • The programme offers
  • Joint masters and doctoral programmes between
    European and non-European universities.
  • Mobility flows of students and academics between
    European and non-European higher education
    institutions (HEI).
  • Promotion of excellence and attractiveness of
    European higher education systems worldwide.

  • 3 Main Actions
  • Action 1 Joint masters and doctoral programmes
    including a scholarship scheme
  • Joint programmes are offered by EU universities
    from at least 3 different countries. Non-EU
    countries can participate. Scholarships /
    fellowships are open to students and academics
    from all over the world. Programmes must include
    joint admission, selection and exam criteria,
    obligatory mobility and award of double, multiple
    or joint degrees
  • Who can participate?
  • Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and research
    centres from EU and non-EU countries
  • Masters students, doctoral candidates .and
    academics from EU and non-EU countries
  • Action 2 Partnerships with non-EU higher
    education institutions (HEI) including
    scholarships (former External Cooperation Window)
  • Partnerships are the basis for enhancing academic
    cooperation and exchanges of students and
    academics. The proposal must come from a minimum
    of 5 HEI from at least 3 EU countries and a
    number of HEI from non-EU countries. Special
    attention is given to disadvantaged and
    vulnerable groups.

  • Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and research
    centres from EU and non-EU countries
  • EU and non-EU students and academics (from
    bachelor to post-doctoral)

  • Scholarship scheme for partner countries linked
    to joint programmes (action 1)
  • Full-study scholarships at master level 2-year
    scholarships
  • Full-study scholarships at doctoral level new!
    3-year scholarships
  • Short-term scholarships for academics at master
    level normally 3 months to teach or do research
    in EU
  • Short-term scholarships for EU academics at
    master level normally 3 months to teach or do
    research in non-EU countries
  • Scholarship scheme linked to partnerships (action
    2)
  • Scholarships for on-EU and EU nationals of
    varying length (3 months to 3years)
  • Scholarships for bachelor, master, doctorate and
    postdoctorate students and HE staff (training,
    teaching, research)
  • Mobility not linked to specific programmes (all
    programmes on offer in partnerships can be
    followed)
  • Special attention paid to socio-economically
    disadvantaged groups and populations in a
    vulnerable situation

  • Action 3 Promotion of European higher education
  • Projects aim to enhance the attractiveness of EU
    higher education worldwide. Activities concern
    promotion, accessibility, quality assurance,
    credit recognition, mutual recognition of
    qualifications, curriculum development and
    mobility.
  • Who can participate?
  • Higher . Education Institutions (HEI) and
    research centres from EU and non-EU countries
  • Any other organisations active in the field of
    higher education from EU and non-EU countries
  • How does it work?

  • Higher Education Institutions, research centres
    and other organisations active in the field of
    higher education should submit proposals in
    accordance with the programme guide and calls.
  • Students and academics should apply directly to
    the selected Erasmus Mundus universities

  • 2) Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window
    (Call for proposals 2008 from 2009, Erasmus
    Mundus II Action 2)
  • The Programme aims to
  • enhance the international cooperation between
    sending and hosting universities in EU and non-EU
    countries by facilitating transfer of know-how
    and good practices in the field of student and
    academic staff mobility
  • enhance the skills and qualifications of students
    and education staff by favouring experience of
    academic studies in another country
  • improve the transparency and recognition of
    studies and qualifications
  • contribute to providing good students from
    vulnerable groups (i.e. refugees, displaced
    populations, disabled foreign students, etc) with
    further education
  • build the capacity of the administration and
    public and private sector by participation of
    their staff in higher education mobility
    activities (especially through doctorate and
    post-doctorate activities).

  • The ongoing call for proposals main features
  • 122 individual mobility flows have been made
    available to Egypt.
  • The present Call is open to all levels of higher
    education (from undergraduate to postdoctoral and
    academic staff) and operates in all fields of
    study.
  • The programme selects and supports the
    scholarship exchange proposal that come from a
    consortium composed of at least 5 EU plus a
    number of non-EU universities. A selected group
    of bachelor, master, doctorate and postdoctorate
    students and HE staff will benefit from a
    scholarship to study in one of the EU
    universities and in turn they may be hosting a
    limited number of EU students and staff.
  • The programme also offers the possibility to all
    nationals of non-EU countries belonging to
    vulnerable groups (refugees, populations from
    zones affected by conflict or natural disasters,
    etc) to request a full scholarship to the EU
    universities in the consortium.
  • The selection of the received proposals under the
    current call is ongoing.

  • 3) Jean Monnet Programme
  • The Programme is designed to increase knowledge
    and awareness about European integration by
    promoting teaching, research and debate on EU
    matters. The Jean Monnet is an internationally-rec
    ognized quality label. By participating,
    universities increase prestige and recognition
    and benefit from academic networking activities
    that take place in the Jean Monnet community.
  • The selection of projects works via an annual
    call for proposals (ongoing - projects will start
    in September 2009). Via the call for proposals,
    higher education institutions can apply for
    support of sub-actions, such as
  • Jean Monnet European Modules short courses on
    European integration
  • Jean Monnet Chairs teaching posts with a
    specialisation in European integration studies
  • Ad personam Jean Monnet Chairs awards reserved
    for (i) distinguished professors with high-level
    international teaching and publication record
    and/or (ii) professors with a distinguished
    background as former high-level practitioners in
    the field of European integration

    students interested in following a course of
    higher education in Europe

  • Provides information on 32 countries (27 EU
    Member States Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway,
    Switzerland and Turkey)
  • Also available in Arabic
  • Same format for each country easily comparable
    information on
  • 1) degree structure and length of study for

  • 2) how to apply, scholarships, visas, etc. for
    each country
