Summer Preview Programs
  • Held in June and July, the Summer Preview
    programs are one-day events which introduce
    anticipated new students to campus. Students
    participate in
  • Introduction to academic advising and course
    selection
  • Placement testing
  • Informative campus and student organization
    presentations
  • Student-led group meetings and discussions
  • Campus tours
  • Campus Resource Information Fair

Summer Crew Leader Role
  • Newly designed, the Summer Crew Leader is the
    integral student link to the Summer Preview
    programs. The Crew Leader role serves many
    functions
  • Act as peer orientation leaders responsible for
    facilitating and personalizing the summer
    orientation experience.
  • Assist new students in their initial transition
    to campus and Selinsgrove, PA through group
    discussions and tours.
  • Provide the student perspective about college
    life and campus opportunities.
  • Introduce information about SU academics, campus
    resources, policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Assist with the academic advising and course
    selection.
  • Work with the families of new students in
    providing information and confidence and pride in
    their childs choice of SU.
  • Prepare students for their fall entrance and
    orientation.

Charting Your Course to Become a 2006 Crew Leader
  • Qualifications for the CL Position
  • Spirited and positive supporter of SU, its
    mission and goals for students and their
    families.
  • Be currently enrolled at SU with a minimum of one
    semester.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Good academic and conduct standing.
  • Have a strong familiarity with campus
    information, history, resources and services and
    the ability to disseminate this information.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to serve as
    positive representative of the University.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented work
    environment.
  • Ability to fully participate in the scheduled
    program dates held in June and July 2006.
  • Available to fully participate in the spring
    training weekend held in April 2006 and in June
    2006.

The Benefits of Being an SU Summer Crew Leader
Development and practice of core leadership
skills such as communication and public-speaking
skills, group facilitation skills, academic
advising, assertiveness skills, and related
others. Opportunity to work in a fun team-orient
ed work environment while networking with key
University faculty and administrative personnel.
A summer stipend of 225.00 to cover four
sessions and one day of training over the course
of three weeks. On-campus accommodations will b
e afforded free of charge during the summer
programs. Limited meal plan will be provided whe
n programs are in session and during training
modules. Staff uniform will be provided in conju
nction with leader role.

  • Serve as a SU SERVE Project Site Leader.
  • Help kick off the 2006 SU Welcome Week Calendar
    of Events, Sunday, August 27 Saturday,
    September 2, 2006.
