Title: The Snowy Day

1
The Snowy Day
  • Book Introduction - Introduce Title, Author,
Illustrator and preview what the book is going to
    be about.
  • Centers - Each center is set up for a
    multisensory approach touching, tasting,
    seeing, hearing and smell
  • Examples
  • Housekeeping has the winter clothing
  • Sweaters, gloves, mittens, jackets, caps,
scarves, boots, socks laid out for trying on.
  • Art has blue paper and white paint
  • Science has ice cubes and shaving cream

2
Activities
  • For this sensory activity, white paper is taped
to the floor. Blue foot prints are attached and
snowballs are laid out (crunched up paper).
The children are asked to follow the footprints,
crunching and listening to the crunch.
  • Gliding once again blue strips of paper are
laid on top the white paper and snowballs added.
For gliding it is a quieter activity and I use
this for comparison to the crunchy walk in the
    snow.
  • For the tree activity, children are given a stick
and they knock snow out of the tree. The
cotton will quietly fall. We then discuss the
three types of snow and how it sounds when you
    are doing each activity.

3
Activities
  • The children take turns putting on winter
clothing, hat, scarf, mittens, jacket, sweater
and boots. Then they reenact the story.
  • Making a snow angel is one of the favorite
activities. The pattern is laid on the floor so
they can see what they are to do. They take
turns and at the end of the activity we trace
each childs snow angel and frame it for them.
