Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Overview
  • Designated in July 1995
  • Housed in the North Central Texas Council of
  • Governments (NCTCOG) in the form of a technical
    committee
  • Clearinghouse for fleets and the general public
    related to technical,
  • funding, and promotional guidance related to
    alternative fuel and
  • advanced technologies and fuels
  • DFW Clean Cities provides technical guidance,
  • project recommendations, and promotion of
    several clean vehicle
  • calls for projects and policy programs of NCTCOG

Significant/Noteworthy Vehicle Projects
  • Clean Fleet Vehicle Policy/Call for Projects
  • Policy covers ways public fleets can have a
    positive impact in air quality through vehicle
    acquisition, maintenance, operations, and
    compliance
  • Entities that adopt the Policy and comply are
    eligible for future clean vehicle funding
  • Entities that do not adopt the Policy may not be
    eligible or score well for other transportation
    funds
  • 47 Heavy-duty CNG Projects approved for funding
  • 53 Light-duty alternative fuel and advanced
    technology vehicle projects approved for funding
  • North Texas Clean School Bus Call for Projects
  • 6 CNG and 15 propane school buses approved for
    funding

Fueling Infrastructure Projects
  • The North Texas Region has continued to sustain
    its natural gas (CNG
  • and LNG), propane, and biodiesel refueling
    stations
  • Continual growth of E85 station openings at
    Kroger Grocery Stores
  • across the region since the first E85 station
    opened in summer of 2006.
  • Currently 9 E85 stations in North Texas

    electric cars
  • Quarterly DFW Clean Cities Technical Coalition
    Meetings
  • Planned and hosted several clean vehicle events
    such as the Texas
  • Propane Road Show, workshops for clean vehicle
    call for project

    vehicle policies

2007 Success Story
  • 2007 Advancing the Choice Workshop
  • Green Taxi Program for the North Texas region
  • This program will help bring hybrids and other
    clean technology
  • vehicles into the taxi market, and currently
    NCTCOG has 1.6
  • million to provide financial assistance
  • Yellow Cab Dallas/Fort Worth is the first taxi
    fleet in the region
  • to incorporate hybrid technologies into their
    fleet
  • They plan on having five hybrids for a pilot
    program by the
  • end of 2007, and having their whole fleet
    operate on 100
  • clean technology by 2011 (this would be over
    1,000 cabs)
  • Approached DFW Clean Cities about the difficulty
    in getting
  • hybrids in Texas to purchase.
  • Coalition held conservations with Toyota about
    this issue
  • Toyota has since assisted Yellow Cab with
    finding four more hybrid
  • Camrys they needed for their pilot program.
