CSL Objectives
  • Students will
  • become responsible and actively involved in CSL.

    people who are less fortunate.

CSL Mission
ASFM is dedicated to making a difference in our
local communities through the efforts of ASFM
students. The service should not be merely
charity, but should help students recognize
community needs, develop and participate in
programs to assist those less fortunate, while
instilling global social values. Participation in
the program should enhance students overall
educational experience and provide them with an
opportunity to complete their social service
graduation requirements.

CSL Graduation Requirements
9th grade 10 hours Bach I 30 hours Bach
II 30 hours Bach III 30 hours MINIMUM TOTAL
HOURS needed to graduate 100

CSL Restrictions
  • No community service done on your own is valid
    for school community service hours, only school
    organized activities.
  • If you have participated in a program which is
    not associated with ASFM, those hours are NOT
    valid for your graduation requirements.
  • However, if you are interested in a program other
    than those offered by ASFM you must check at the
    CSL office if it can be possible to meet your
    needs and get a group of students involved one
    month BEFORE you attend.

CSL Log
Make sure you read and understand the
Requirements and Guidelines found in your agenda,
pages 27 to 29. Your CSL log is found on page
29 so that you can keep track of your CSL hours.

Community Service Learning

1. Blood Drives
We donate blood during a week day at our school
or at Mitras centro donation center. REQUIREMEN
T Be 18 years or older. HOURS 5 hours each
time.

  • Sponsoring a
  • Childs Education

We develop a campaign in coordination with
Lazos to promote having godsons and giving
scholarships to the less fortunate children of
Monterrey. Number of student volunteers
required 15 - 20. HOURS 10 to 30 hours,
depending on student level of participation.

34. English Classes
We teach English on Wednesdays afternoons or on
Saturday mornings to the students of Benito
Juárez and Eduardo Caballero public
schools. Number of student volunteers required
15 - 20. HOURS 50 to 90 hours, depending on
student level of participation.

5. Weekend at Work
We organize activities for the children of
ASFM employees on specific Saturdays. Number of
student volunteers required 15 - 20. HOURS 7
hours each time.

6. Children with Cerebral Palsy are My Friends
We share time on Saturdays with the children of
Nuevo Amanecer and we help them with some of
their particular needs. Number of student
volunteers required All ninth graders and 20
to 25 Bach students. HOURS 10 to 25 hours,
depending on student level of participation.

  • a Grandparent

We spend quality time with the elderly in our
community. Number of student volunteers
required Varies. HOURS 20 to 30 hours,
depending on student level of participation.

8. Villas Asistenciales English Classes
We teach English on Tuesdays from 330 to 445
to students of Villas Asistenciales, a place that
helps the less fortunate children of Santa
Catarina. Number of student volunteers required
10 - 15. HOURS 50 hours.

9. Constructing an Environment of Love
At DIF Capullos, we share time on Saturdays
with children and babies who are victims of
intrafamiliar violence. Number of student
volunteers required 20. HOURS 7 hours each
time.

10. Helping Others Help
On Saturdays, we dedicate some time to
help store and pack donated items and food at
Cáritas distribution center. Number of student
volunteers required 10 - 20. HOURS 4 hours
each time.

11. Visit of Joy
On Fridays after school, we will be visiting
different hospitals, orphanages, daycares, and
shelter homes. Number of student volunteers
required 6 - 10. HOURS 2 to 3 hours each
time.

12. Terry Fox Run / Fundación Cima...
We participate in different races, and help in
the race administrations in order to support
Cancer Research. Number of student volunteers
required varies. HOURS 25 hours.

13. Warm Winter
We collect and distribute toys and clothes for
the less fortunate people of Santa
Catarina. Number of student volunteers required
10 - 15. HOURS 7 hours each time.

We help in the integration of handicapped people
to the society by taking care of the children
while their parents are taking
conferences. Number of student volunteers
required varies. HOURS 7 hours each time.

15. Unidos
We help in the integration of children with down
syndrome to our society at summer camps and
special events. Number of student volunteers
required Varies. HOURS 10 to 90 hours,
depending on student level of participation.

16. Assistance Bank
Collecting money for different projects and
needs. We find sponsors, design and run bazaars,
raffles, bake sales, etc. Number of student
volunteers required 10 approx. HOURS 5 to 8
hours each time.

  • Clean up Huasteca / Caring for the Environment

We go to assigned areas to promote a better
environment and we develop campaigns that will
motivate people to respect nature. Number of
student volunteers required Varies. HOURS 4
to 7 hours each time.

  • Curing Cancer
  • with Love

We particpate in activities during a special
week and In holiday celebrations with children
who have cancer. Number of student volunteers
required 15 - 20. HOURS 5 to 15 hours,
depending on student level of participation.

19. Helping Hands
We create educational materials for children at
Tedi, who have Down Syndrome. Materials include
brochures, videos, translating texts and
vocabulary lists. Number of student volunteers
required Varies. HOURS 10 to 15 hours,
depending on student level of participation.

20. Acciones en Cadena
On certain Saturdays we go with other schools
to help make a real difference to a particular
place in need. Number of student volunteers
required 20. HOURS 4 to 8 hours each time.

21. La Papilla
On specific Saturdays we help distribute la
papilla, and we weigh, measure, and check the
information of the children of Fernando Amilpa
and Sombrillas communities. Number of student
volunteers required 10 - 15. HOURS 4 to 7
hours each time.
