- One of the most relevant functions of the Center
for Institutional Effectiveness (CEI) is to
conduct follow-up studies on Monterrey Tech
graduates, in order to ascertain - Their career.
- Fulfillment of the Institutes Mission.
- Their degree of satisfaction with the services
they received during their professional
education. - Graduate follow-up studies are based on Strategy
5 of our Mission Maintaining the continuous
improvement process.

41. Employment level of recent graduates
Objective to determine the employment rate 3
months after graduation, time to get their first
employment, and indicators on their position in
the labor market. (job type, salary, type of
company in which they collaborate,
etc.) Instrument a survey is conducted in April
and September. Methodology a statistically valid
sample from the total number of graduates is
selected (from the 23 campuses that currently
offer undergraduate programs) and the survey is
then conducted by phone and through a webpage.

6Use of the results of the employment level of
recent graduates survey
- The results are used to
- Analyze the demand for graduates in the labor
market in Mexicos most important cities. (a
necessary requirement for opening new degree
courses or for offering a degree course at more
than one campus) - Help program directors to come into direct
contact with the companies in which the graduates
work. - Obtain the information requested by national and
international accreditation organizations, such
as The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools
of Business (AACSB) and the European Foundation
for Management Development-EQUIS (employment
indicators and graduates opinions on the help
they received from the Institute for finding
employment, etc.).

72. Career tracking a) Bachelors degree graduates
Objectives to determine graduates professional
performance, before and after graduation, and at
the time when this survey is conducted. To find
out their opinion of the academic preparation
provided by the Institute. Instrument a survey
is conducted every 3 years with alumni who
graduated 5, 10 and 15 years beforehand. Methodolo
gy a statistical sample is performed. The survey
is conducted by phone and through a webpage.

survey undergraduate level
- The results are used to
- Determine the evolution of the graduates
careers. (indicators for employment, salary,
positions held, work experience abroad, and
self-employment or entrepreneurial spirit
indicators) - Incorporate improvements into the syllabuses
based on the graduates suggestions. - Ascertain the relationship that exists between
the activities that they are currently carrying
out and the degree that they completed. - Establish the graduates degree of satisfaction
with their professional activities and with the
services they received from the Institute.

112. Career tracking b) Masters degree level
Objectives to analyze the way in which the
masters degree they completed at the Monterrey
Tech has contributed to their professional
success. To determine the degree of satisfaction
with the educational services they
received. Instrument a survey is designed and
conducted in accordance with the specific needs
of the graduate programs. Methodology one or
more generations of masters degree graduates are
selected and a statistical sample is performed.
The survey is conducted by phone and through a
webpage.

- The results are used to
- Strengthen the promotional programs for the
masters degree courses. - Determine the graduates labor and personal
profile to design graduate programs that better
meet the needs of the students that the Institute
targets at this level. (executives, people with
multiple responsibilities, professionals who are
seeking international academic experiences, etc.) - Obtain information that serves as evidence of the
Institutes commitment to its philosophy of
continuous improvement for national and
international accreditation organizations, such
as the National Council of Science and Technology
(CONACYT) and the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS).

153. Alumni in the public sector
Objectives to identify the presence of graduates
at the top levels of the federal, state and local
government, and to determine their academic
profile as well as that of the other public
officials. Methodology an analysis is made of
the public officials directories and of the
official government websites. Complementary and
publicly unavailable information is obtained over
the phone. This is carried out every three years.

the public sector
- The results are used to
- Have an indicator of the fulfillment of one of
the objectives of the Institutes Mission to
contribute to the democratization of Mexico. - Evaluate the extent to which the Institute
fulfills its purpose of educating professionals
who are committed to the development of their
communities (a key part of its Mission). - Strengthen the design and improvement of the
postgraduate syllabuses focusing on public
officials. - Design training programs for the graduates who
collaborate in the public sector.

194. Alumni in the private sector
Objectives to identify the presence of graduates
in the top organizational levels of Mexicos
leading firms, and to determine their academic
profile as well as that of other
executives. Methodology an analysis is made of
the top 200 firms in Mexico and of their general
directors (information available from secondary
sources), and complementary information is
obtained over the phone (calls to companies).
This is carried out every three years.

- Ascertain the profile of the Mexican executive
and, thus, better meet his or her educational
needs. - Evaluate the extent to which the Institute
fulfills its purpose of educating professionals
who are committed to the development of their
communities (a key part of its Mission). - Strengthen the promotional efforts of the
undergraduate courses. - Make students aware of the importance of their
training as the future leaders of the country.

Objectives to determine the perception employers
have of the Institutes graduates, their
strengths and weaknesses vs. graduates from other
universities. Instrument an employer survey is
conducted. Methodology a statistical sample is
selected from the main Mexican firms (in the
three most important cities Mexico City,
Monterrey, and Guadalajara). This survey is
conducted through an interview.

The survey was conducted in 2003 and its main
objective was to establish, from the perspective
of employers in the metropolitan areas of
Monterrey, Mexico City, and Guadalajara, the
general conditions of the demand for
professionals and the determining factors for
recruitment and performance evaluation.

companies that recruit its graduates. - Establish the decisive factors for recruitment
and performance evaluation used by Mexican firms.
