3Vehicular and Pedestrian Traffic Study

4Close to major highways and roadways-Highway
construction causes noise and creates more
congestion-Close to downtown St. Louis-Noisy
due to vehicular traffic, air traffic, and city
location
Map from http//medschool.slu.edu
5-S. Grand Blvd has very heavy traffic connects
to U.S. 40 and I-44 highways-Intersection
between Hickory St. and S. Grand Blvd is
busy-Congestion due to highway exits-Traffic
also due to industrial and commercial areas by
site-Vista Ave quiet and used for street
parking-Carr Lane Ave used for the Medical
campus parking facilities
Map from http//medschool.slu.edu
6-Hospital brings in vehicular and air
traffic-Industrial and store fronts do not cause
much activity-Adequate parking in area due to
on-street parking and garages-Loud noise from
traffic, trucks, and airplanes
Map from http//medschool.slu.edu
7Pedestrians led into medical campus through
dramatic arch entryway-Visually pleasing area
across from hospital-Archway draws you into
central spot on medical campus-Leads you into
more intimate area off Grand Blvd.

8-Water feature draws pedestrians into central
area-Central area and hospital on axis-Quieter
more intimate space away from major streets
creates gathering spaces

9-Large sidewalks create pathways suitable for
heavy pedestrian traffic-Allows for easy
accessibility for the rest of medical campus
10-Most pedestrians on medical campus drive and
use surrounding parking lots-If traveling from
downtown St. Louis, driving is probably the
best option

-Canon Designs new building for St. Louis
Medical Campus will bring more pedestrian traffic
to a currently quiet area -By eliminating several
smaller streets for the creation of the new
building, there will be more traffic on Carr Lane
and other surrounding streets -Canon Designs new
building will create more vehicular traffic -The
large amount of parking will be utilized more
efficiently
12-The addition of a new campus building will
create more interaction between the buildings on
the campus-A proposed walkway will allow easier
pedestrian movement-The new water feature on the
corner of Grand and Hickory will attract people
into the area, creating an entranceway to the
medical campus-This creates an area of
accessibility for future buildings

13The 70 Grand stops along St. Louis Medical
Campus near the main hospital. The metrolink
railline closest to the campus would also be the
Grand line which is located near the Interstate
40 exit
