The Beginning
  • Sherman Alexie was born in 1966 on the Spokane
    Indian Reservation in Wellpinit, Washington,
    where he lived with his family for much of his
    childhood.
  • Alexie was born into a family of the Indian tribe
    Spokane/Coeur d'Alene.
  • In 1992 Alexie graduated from Washington State
    University, with a degree in American Studies.
  • A little while after he graduated, he received
    the National Endowment for the Arts Poetry
    Fellowship.

What made him famous
  • What made Alexie famous was the publication of
    his first novel Reservation Blues. After this
    novel he was named the best young American
    Novelist. His second novel, Indian Killer, was
    a New York Times notable book. These were the
    two works that made him famous.
