A Guide On Pediatric Physical Therapy
2
  • Patients of all ages can participate in physical
therapy. There are a number of different forms of
physical therapy available today. The type of
physical therapy patients receive will depend on
the nature of the injury, type of therapeutic
technique required, and the age of patients.
Conditions that may require physical therapy
include brain injury, heart attack, stroke,
arthritis and other problems relating to the
joints, back injury, mobility issues, and
injuries pertaining to a specific area of the
body such as muscle and tissue injuries. All of
these health conditions can be successfully
treated through physical therapy by speeding up
    healing, alleviate symptoms, improve mobility,
and help patients manage their conditions more
effectively. When it comes to the age of the
patient, there is not a general physical therapy
program designed for all ages. One such physical
therapy specialty is Pediatric Physical Therapy.

  • Provided by various health organizations such as
clinics and hospitals, pediatric physical therapy
is provided to children to treat developmental
    delays, non-congenital disorders, and congenital
    disorders, Pediatric physical therapy practices
are useful in identifying childrens health
problems in the earlier stages. Pediatric
physical therapists are trained and certified in
the diagnosis, treatment, and management of
children and infants who have skeletal,
    developments, congenital, and neuromuscular
    diseases. Pediatric physical therapists provide
treatment that is designed to improve balance and
coordination, strength and endurance, and motor
skills. In addition, the physical therapy focuses
on improving childrens sensory and cognitive
    levels.

4
  • Licensed pediatric physical therapists working
in pediatric health centers are experienced in
providing the best and most effective therapy for
children and infants. For instance, they design
specific treatment plans that help children with
achieving specific developmental goals such as
sitting, crawling, standing, and walking. How
long a child participates in a physical therapy
program will depend on the nature of the childs
particular health condition. A child who has a
developmental delay problem such as being slow to
learn to walk may need only short term physical
therapy treatment while a child with a more
intensive condition such as spina bifida may
require a longer treatment plan. When a child has
such a condition as spina bifida, a specific
physical therapy plan will be implemented that
can include using physical medical devices. A
pediatric physical therapy program is essential
to treating various types of childrens physical
    impairments and diseases.

  • Pediatric physical therapists offer a number of
different treatment services in such areas as
making and providing splints and casts, early
    intervention, sensory integration, neuro
    development, functional mobility, myofascial
    release, pain management, urinary incontinence
    treatment, hippotherapy, and electrical
stimulation. A pediatric physical therapist also
treats children recovering from bone fractures,
physical injuries, fractures and other illnesses
and conditions. They play an important role in
helping to improve childrens lives which is why
it is such a rewarding job.

6
  • With so many different physical therapy jobs
available, pediatric physical therapy jobs are in
demand and they are very popular due to high job
    satisfaction among these therapists. Pediatric
physical therapy focuses on the well being of
children and improving their daily lives such as
improving their functions and alleviating pain.
    Through proper treatment techniques, physical
    exercises, and medication, pediatric physical
therapists help children improve or regain their
    physical capabilities. The therapeutic treatment
plan is often coordinated with other health
professionals and the best treatment plan is
created, and each stage of the treatment process
    is monitored and evaluated.

7
  • There are different areas a physical therapist
can specialize and different areas require
    different credentials and education. Pediatric
physical therapy is one area that is very
rewarding and requires not just the appropriate
    credentials, but also patience, professionalism,
and a dedication to helping children.
