Why study delta wings and vortical flows?
  • Delta wing design has significant advantage in
lift forces at high angles of attack when
    compared with other designs
  • Several vortical structures form on the leeward
surface of a delta wing at moderate to high
angles of attack, producing 30-50 of the total
    lift
  • Leading-edge vortices are
  • generated by the rolling up of the viscous flow
sheet previously confined in the boundary layer
  • Extreme flight conditions result in
  • complicated 3-D separated flows
