Mission Overview
The purpose of the Apollo 11 mission was to land
men on the lunar surface and to return them
safely to Earth. The crew was Neil A. Armstrong,
commander Michael Collins, Command Module pilot
and Edwin Buzz Aldrin Jr., Lunar Module pilot.
Their rocket, Saturn V, lifted off from Kennedy
Space Center at 932 am on July 16, 1969. After
the launch, the spacecraft was inserted into
lunar orbit about 76 hours after takeoff. They
came back to Earth on July 24, 1969.

"The Eagle Has Landed"
On July 20th, 1969, the United States landed on
the moon. This missions Lunar Module was called
the Eagle. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin stayed
on the Eagle, while Michael Collins stayed back
in lunar orbit.

One Giant Leap...
A lunar module camera provided live television
coverage of Neil Armstrong setting foot on the
lunar surface at 1056 PM on July 20. He became
the first person to ever step foot on the moon.
At 1116 PM, Buzz Aldrin became the second person
to walk on the moon. They then set an American
flag on the surface to signify this great event.

Splashdown
On July 24, 1969, the Apollo 11 crew splashed
down in the Pacific Ocean. This put a cap on a
very successful mission to the moon. The object
of this mission was to safely land a crew on the
moon and bring them back to Earth. As you can
see, this was successful.

Did We Really Land On The Moon???
This is the question many scientists have been
asking as of late. They have been askingWhy
does the flag on the moon appear to be waving?
Why is there even lighting on the entire surface
of the moon? How did all of the pictures and
video taken on the moon come out perfectly, with
almost none of them blurred? Some people think
this entire moon landing was a hoax put in place
so we can say we beat the Soviets to the moon.
Others think it is preposterous to even think
that we could fake landing on the moon. We want
to think that we landed on the moon, but we
realize that the story could go either way. What
do you think?
