Introduction
  • The band was established in 1987 by the Tinley
    Park-Park District under its then new Arts
    Alive! program to encourage, promote, teach and
    perform the fine arts in Tinley Park and the
    surrounding communities.
  • The band has performed throughout the Chicagoland
    area in benefit and public service concerts.

Our Director
  • Stephen Platko became the bands music director
    in 1990.
  • He is a graduate of Northwestern University.
  • After retiring, he has devoted his musical
    energies to the Arts Alive! music programs and
    to a career of composing and arranging music.

OUR BAND (cont)
  • plus other small ensembles for special occasions.

OUR MEMBERSHIP
  • Band members range in age from 16 to 80 years.
  • Members reside in communities from Kankakee to
    Chicago and many southern and western suburbs.
  • Members receive no monetary compensation for time
    spentrehearsing or performing.

  • As a representative of the Tinley Park-Park
    District, the Community Band maintains a very
    active schedule performing in Tinley Park and the
    surrounding area.
