8Rococo The French Taste
- After the death of Louis XIV, nobles leave
Versailles and move into fashionable hotels
(townhouses) in Paris - These hotels become centers for entertainment
and intellectual gatherings called, salons - The Rococo can be viewed as a reaction to the
formality of art prior to this time under Louis
XIV - KNOWN FOR Pastel colors, delicately curving
forms, dainty figures, and a lighthearted mood - Begins in France but spread across Europe
- It will go out of fashion during Neoclassicism
