Lucas 2335 - 43
35 Cuando Jesús estaba ya crucificado, las
autoridades le hacían muecas, diciendo A
otros ha salvado que se salve a sí mismo, sí
él es el Mesías de Dios, el elegido.
36 También los soldados se burlaban de Jesús,
y acercándose a él, le ofrecían vinagre

37 y le decían Si tú eres el rey de los
judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.
38 Había, en efecto, sobre la cruz, un
letrero en griego, latín y hebreo, que decía
Este es el rey de los judíos.
39 Uno de los malhechores crucificados insultaba
a Jesús, diciéndole Si tú eres el Mesías,
sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros.

40 Pero el otro le reclamaba, indignado Ni
siquiera temes tú a Dios estando en el mismo
suplicio?
41 Nosotros justamente recibimos el pago de lo
que hicimos. Pero este ningún mal ha hecho.

42 Y le decía a Jesús Señor, cuando llegues
a tu Reino, acuérdate de mí .
43 Jesús le respondió Yo te aseguro que hoy
estarás conmigo en el Paraíso.

35 The people stood by and watched the
rulers, meanwhile, sneered at Jesus and
said, He saved others, let him save himself if
he is the chosen one, the Messiah of God.
36 Even the soldiers jeered at Jesus. As they
approached to offer him vinegar.

37 And they called out, If you are King of
the Jews, save yourself.
38 Above him there was an inscription that read,
This is the King of the Jews.
39 Now one of the criminals hanging there
reviled Jesus, saying, Are you not the
Messiah? Save yourself and us.

40 The other, however, rebuking him, said
in reply, Have you no fear of God, for you
are subject to the same condemnation?
41 And indeed, we have been condemned justly,
for the sentence we received corresponds to our
crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.

42 Then he said, Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom.
43 He replied to him, Amen, I say to you,
today you will be with me in Paradise.

Pope Benedict XVI once said Jesus of
Nazareth is so intrinsically king that the
title King has actually become his name.
By calling ourselves Christians, we label
ourselves as followers of the king. The King is
Jesus in him God entered humanity and
espoused it to himself. This is the usual form
of divine activity in relation to humanity

Nazareno... es tan intrínsecamente rey que el
titulo Rey actualmente ha llegado a ser su
nombre. Al llamarnos Cristianos, nos

The feast of Christ the King is therefore not a
feast of those who are subjugated, but a feast
of those who know that they are in the hands of
the one who writes straight with crooked lines.

We are dealing with a tremendous mystery. The
more we find out about God, the more awesome God
is. Every time we deal with him in prayer, and
come in touch with him, we are left hanging on
his words (Luke 1948). It is good to linger
there, for he has much to say, and our time is
limited. But he can give in a moment what he
has denied for a long time.

Entre más descubrimos de Dios, más maravilloso
es. Cada vez que tratamos con él en la oración,
y lo tocamos, nos quedamos pendientes de sus
palabras (Lucas 1948). Es bueno quedarse

understanding he received as he was next to the
River Cardoner, in Spain. He said he learned
more in that instant than everything he had
learned before, up to then, and since.

Saul of Tarsus (Saint Paul) had a similar
experience. As he journeyed to Damascus,
suddenly a light from heaven flashed about him.
He fell to the ground and heard a voice say
Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? And
he said Who are you, Lord? And he said,
I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting (Acts
93-5).

Saúl de Tarso (San Pablo) tuvo experiencia
similar. Al ir rumbo a Damasco, de repente
una luz celeste relampagueó en torno a él.
Cayó al suelo y oyó una voz decirle Saúl,
Saúl, porque me persigues? Y él dijo
Quién eres tú, Señor? Y le dijo, Yo soy
Jesús, quien tú persigues (Hechos 93-5).

He was blinded, until he went to Ananias, who
prayed over him so he could regain his sight and
be filled with the Holy Spirit. He was
baptized as Paul, and after that, he began to
proclaim Jesus is the Son of God!

Se puso ciego, hasta que fue con Ananías, que
rezó por él para que recobrara su vista y
fuese lleno del Espíritu Santo. Fue bautizado
como Pablo, y después de eso, comenzó a
proclamar Jesús es el Hijo de Dios!

In the Book of Colossians 112-20 Paul tried to
explain what had happened. He delivered us from
the power of darkness, and transferred us to the
kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have
redemption, and the forgiveness of sins.

The penitent thief who hung at the right side of
Christ on the cross confesses Jesus Christ is
Lord. His moment of grace comes as others
rebuke Jesus. He said Have you no fear of
God, for you are subject to the same

El ladrón penitente que estaba colgado al lado
derecho de Jesús en la cruz confesó que Jesús es
el Señor. Su momento de gracia vino cuando otros
reprendían a Jesús. El dijo Qué no tienes
temor de Dios, porque tú eres sujeto a la misma
condenación? Y la nuestra es justa, nos dan
nuestro merecido, éste no ha hecho nada malo.

Then he said, Jesus, remember me when you
come into your kingdom. Jesus replied to him,
Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me
in Paradise. (Luke 2342-43).

Y añadió Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando
entres a tu reino. Jesús le respondió Yo
te aseguro que hoy estarás conmigo en el

Maximus of Turin (Sermons 74.1-2) once said How
fitting and just! For the thief confesses,
while the disciple denied him ! This is a
remarkable thing, I say. The thief honors the
one who suffers, while Judas betrayed the one
who he kissed !

Our moment of insight comes whenever the Lord
chooses. Pray, and pray much, that the Lord
have mercy on you, and reveal himself to you.
For many are called, but few are chosen. And
many will try to enter by the narrow gate, and
be unable. Be alert to the motion of grace in
your heart.

Nuestro momento de iluminación viene cuando el
Señor escoje. Pídele, y pídele mucho, al
Señor, que tenga misericordia de ti, y se
revele a ti. Porque muchos son los llamados,
pocos los escogidos. Y muchos tratarán a entrar
por la puerta angosta, y no podrán hacerlo.

How many times does the Lord say Be vigilant,
be awake, be alert, o ye of little faith.
For at a moment that you do not expect, the Lord
will come.

Ponte alerta al momento de gracia en tu corazón.
Cuantas veces el Señor dice Listos, hay que
ser vigilantes, y estar despiertos, y alertas,
hombres de poca fe. Porque a un momento que no
esperes, el Señor vendrá.

We are not left without any clues as to what to
do in the meantime. The Holy Scriptures are
full of wisdom for the wise, and holiness for
the holy. Read the Law, and read the
prophets. Love the Lord, and love your
neighbor. Thank the Lord under all
circumstances. But above all, aim for love.

Mientras tanto, no estamos sin ningún recurso.
Las Sagradas Escrituras están llenas de
sabiduría para los sabios, y santidad para los
santos. Lee la Ley, y lee los profetas.
Amen al Señor en toda circunstancia. Pero sobre
todo, diríjanse al amor.

This Thanksgiving, Jesus was in the line that
came to my church doors, and we fed him. For
he said I was hungry, and you gave me to
eat! As long as you did it to the least of my
brethren, you did it to me (Matthew
2535,45). That was our moment of grace!

Este día de Gracias, Jesús estuvo en la línea
que vino a las puertas de mi iglesia, y le
dimos de comer. Porque dijo Tuve hambre, y
me diste de comer! Cuando lo hagas al menos de
mis hermanos, me lo hiciste a mí (Mateo
