NFPA 1710 STANDARD
  • May, 2001 National Fire Protection Association
    adopted new standard (NFPA 1710)
  • 1. Requires 4 minutes average response times
  • 2. Requires each apparatus to be staffed with
    at least 4 personnel, or
  • 3. Requires departments to put at least 14
    personnel on the scene within eight minutes
  • 4. WSFD meets Requirement 1, but not
    Requirements 2 or 3

Proposed NFPA 1710 Compliance Plan
  • Add aerial unit for Stratford West station,
    located at 2050 Griffith Road
  • Move current aerial unit from Buena Vista
    station, located at 100 Arbor Road, to Peace
    Haven Road Station, located at 1505 N. Peacehaven
    Road
  • Move HazMat unit from Old Greensboro Road to
    station located at 100 Arbor Road and reformulate
    as a HazMat/Rescue unit add three additional
    firefighters for rescue. These personnel will
    staff and operate the HazMat/Rescue unit and a
    quick response unit.

  • Replace HazMat unit at Old Greensboro Road
    station, located at 4295 Old Greensboro Road,
    with a regular 12 firefighter engine company
  • Staff an additional quick response unit at the
    Martin Luther King Drive station, located at 290
    N. Martin Luther King Drive and the Ogburn Avenue
    station, located at 4685 Ogburn Avenue, with 6
    additional personnel per station
