Title: What do plants and animals do to get energy?

1
What do plants and animals do to get energy?
  • 0307.3.1 Label a diagram to illustrate the food
relationships that exist between plant and
    animals
  • 0307.3.2 Create a chart to show how plants and
    animals satisfy their energy requirement

2
Animals
  • Plants and Animals have basic needs.
  • Think about what you need to survive?
  • What are your basic needs?
  • Food, Water, and Shelter
  • You are the same as animals.

3
Plants
  • Plants basic needs are a little different from
    animals.
  • What does a plant need to grow at your house?
  • Air, Sunlight, and Soil

4
Animals
  • Animals satisfy their basic need for energy by
    eating.
  • When we eat we get energy just like animals.
Think about when your teacher picks you up from
    lunch.
  • Do you have more energy after eating lunch? The
food you ate gave you energy.
  • Some animals eat plants to get energy and other
animals eat animals to get energy.

5
Animals are grouped by what they eat.
  • Animals are classified into groups by how they
get energy. Animals get energy from eating.
  • The animals that eat only plants to get energy
    are called herbivores.
  • The animals that eat only other animals to get
    energy are called carnivores.
  • The animals that eat plants and other animals to
    get energy are called omnivores.

6
Plant-eaters
  • Animals that eat only plants to get energy are
called herbivores. These animals get energy from
    eating plants.
  • Some examples of herbivores are cows and camels.

7
Animal Eaters
  • Some animals get energy by eating other animals.
    These animals are called carnivores.
  • Some examples of animals that eat other animals
    are sharks, lions, and hawks.

8
Animals that eat Bothplants and animals
  • There is a group of animals that eat both plants
and animals. This group gets energy from eating
both. These animals are called omnivores.
  • Some examples of these are us (humans), bears,
    and gorillas.

9
Create a Chart
  • You can create a chart of what animals eat.
    Energy travels through this chart.
  • The grasshopper eats the grass and the mouse eats
    the grasshopper.

10
Create
  • Can you create a chart of plants and animals that
    shows how energy travels?
