  she began to write

• 1956, mental condition and depression worsened
• tried commiting suicide several times
• started writing again as therapy

• became a professor
• commtied suicide October 4, 1974

• Born October 27, 1932 in Boston. Massachusetts
• As a child published first poem
• Studied at Smith College 
• Married poet Ted Hughes in 1956 and had 2 kids
•  Committed suicide in 1963
•  Became the first poet to win Pulitzer Prize
  after being dead
• Best known for poems Colossus and Ariel
