sales tax for Orange County transportation
improvements. Orange County voters approved
Measure M sales tax in 1990 for balanced
transportation investment. Freeways, streets, and
roads receive 75 of the money generated, while
transit (including The CenterLine) receives 25.

Norfolk LRT
  • Norfolk Southern Railroad Corp. declined HRTs
    offer of 2.7 million for 15.4-miles of
    right-of-way and ended negotiations
  • HRTs appraisal indicated a value of 38.6 million
    and Norfolk Southern a value 48.4 million
  • HRT made offer based on previous sale of 1.14
    miles by Norfolk Southern right-of-way to the
    city of Virginia Beach for 224,000 per mile
