Public Construction
  • These are samples submitted during
construction projects of water system facilities
whether treatment facilities, storage tanks or
piping. These samples are required to be
submitted after construction is completed and
facilities have been disinfected. These samples
will determine the effectiveness of the
    disinfection process. Coliform positive
construction samples would indicate the need to
disinfect again. Doing repairs may also be cause
for submission of construction samples under
certain conditions such as loss of pressure or
    low pressure.

Routine/distribution
  • These are samples which are submitted to
comply with the TCEQ requirements to sample the
distribution system at active service connections
each month. The number of samples submitted is
based on the population served by the public
water system. The minimum number of samples
    required must be submitted monthly.

Public Distribution
9
Public Raw
  • These samples are collected directly from a
water source, most often a well, before
chlorination or any other treatment. These
samples are used to determine conditions within
the well. The presence of coliform bacteria,
especially E. coli, would indicate a serious
problem with well construction or the well
location. Raw samples are required for public
    water systems without well easements,
    construction/location problems or violations of
the coliform maximum contaminant level in
    distribution monitoring.

Public Repeat
  • These samples are submitted in response to a
    routine/distribution sample which is coliform
positive. These samples are collected at the
site of the original coliform positive sample and
within five connections upstream and within five
connections downstream of the original coliform
positive site. These samples must be collected
and submitted within 24hr of the public water
system leaning of a positive routine/distribution
sample. A public water system which submits only
one routine/distribution sample each month must
submit four repeat samples. The fourth repeat
sample would come from any site not yet having a
repeat sample collected from it. Those public
water systems which submit more than one routine
sample each month must collect 3 repeat samples
    for each positive routine/distribution sample.

Public Replacement
  • When a sample is indicted by the lab as being
unsuitable for analysis the sample must be
collected again at the same site as the original
sample or the system will not receive credit for
submitting a sample. These are replacement
samples. The water system may be charged with a
violation if unsuitable samples are not
replaced. Mark the lab form sample type the
same as the original sample sample type was
    marked.

Public Replacement
15
Public Special
  • These samples are submitted in response to
customer complaints or other circumstances where
the public water system is seeking information
regarding water system conditions. These samples
are not intended to be compliance samples such
    as routine/distribution samples.
