Galloway breed information
  • Oldest and purest of UK native cattle breeds.
  • Naturally polled hill cattle.
  • Very well suited for converting rough grazing
    into lean meat.

  • Thick fringe and hairy ears.

Meat Quality
  • One of the purposes of raising cattle is for the
    production of meat.
  • Increase in demand for tasty, low fat, tender
    juicy product.
  • 1994 study in Canada comparing commercial breeds
    with Galloway.
  • This revealed that Galloway beef had low fat
    content and beneficial Omega 6 and 3 essential
    fatty acids.

  • Out wintering of all cows (silage and grass).

Hedgeley Livestock
  • Hedgeley livestock was set up in Spring 2006
    following uplift of beef ban by John
    Carr-Ellison.
  • John Carr-Ellison is an experienced farmer who
    has a 1600ha estate in Northumberland and has
    also been actively involved in the management of
    large scale arable farming operations in
    Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia since 1995.
  • Hedgeley Livestock aims to organize the sourcing
    and exporting of high quality breeding stock in
    to Europe, particularly Germany, Estonia,
    Lithuania and Latvia.

  • In Calf Heifers - 800 plus transport

    -2500 stock bull
  • All would be sourced, put through the relevant
    export tests and exported through Hedgeley
    Livestock.
