Role of Universities in ICT Growth
  • Universities are a basic information and
education institution in nations all over the
    world.
  • They are generators of knowledge (through
    research, analysis, information integration, and
    discussion)
  • They store knowledge in their libraries and they
pass on knowledge and information through formal
    instruction, forums, non-formal education,
    publications and other media.
  • They are also the leading agencies for delivering
Information Technology knowledge to the public.

Kabul University Cisco Regional Academy
  • In 2002 a partnership of MoC, Cisco, UNDP and
Kabul University resulted in creating the first
Cisco Networking Academy at Kabul University
    Computer Science Department
  • In 2003 ITU also joined this partnership which
resulted in creating a Cisco Networking Academy
in Telecommunication Training Center (TTC) of
    MoC.
  • In 2004 USAID funded the Cisco Program, which
resulted in creating Cisco Networking Academies
in Mazar-e-sharif, Khost and Herat provinces.
  • Now Computer Science Department of Kabul
University is the leading Cisco Networking
Academy in training IT professionals in all over
    Afghanistan.

13
KU-Cisco Academy Offers
  • The Cisco Networking Academy Program offers more
than a curriculum. It also provides an e-learning
    system offering Internet-enabled learning that
    encompasses training, education, just-in-time
information, and communication. It includes the
    following benefits
  • Interactive multimedia curricula
  • Online testing
  • Performance-based skills assessment
  • Classroom management through a web interface
  • Using the online curriculum, hands-on labs,
    state-of-the-art equipment, real-world projects,

Female Participation
  • In all Computer Science classes 30-35 female
students are participating. This percentage shows
the highest female students participation in the
region. And even this is a high percentage in
most Cisco Networking Academies in all over the
    world.

23
Kabul University Cisco Regional Academy also
trains instructors for the Local Academies
  • Each instructor training costs around 5,000 USD
for each CCNA or ITE course.
  • Before the establishment of Kabul University
Cisco Regional Academy, instructors had to be
trained at the neighboring countries Regional
Academies and each local academy had to pay an
annual support fee of around 1,500 USD.
  • Now Kabul University trains Local Academy
instructors at no cost and we do not charge
annual support fees to our local academies. We
can also train instructors for the neighboring
    countries local academies.
