33QUALITY ENGINEERING
- GSA Fleet QDRs should be sent to us thru R-9
James Littwin. - We work with NHTSAs Office of Defects

34SELECT THE RIGHT VEHICLE
35WEIGHTS AND PAYLOAD
- Know the curb weight of the vehicle.
- Know the payload to be placed on the vehicle.
- Know the distribution of the curb weight and the
distribution of payload. - Remember you must never exceed GAWR (Gross Axle
Weight Rating), GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight
Rating), or GCWR (Gross Combination Weight
Rating).
36OVERLOADED TO THE MAX!
37WEIGHTS AND PAYLOAD
- 5. REMEMBER OVERLOADING IS
- DANGEROUS
- EXPENSIVE
- POTENTIAL LIABILITY
- ARE YOU PERSONALLY WILLING TO ASSUME THE
RESPONSIBILITY AND LIABILITY ???
38VEHICLE PERFORMANCE
- Basic vehicles covered by the GSA Standards will
perform well! - If operating under more severe conditions the
following can be specified - larger engines
- axle ratios
- larger alternators
- heavier duty frames
39VEHICLE PERFORMANCE
- Different tires
- Higher GAWRs, GVWRS and GCWRS
- Cold weather options
- IF YOU ARE NOT SURE WHAT
- TO SPECIFY ----- CALL US !!!
40TOWING
- For light trucks (Fed-Std-307)
- Check the towing chart in the front of the
standard. - For heavy vehicles (Fed-Stds 794 and 807)
- Check the table for specific item to determine
the GCWR (gross combination weight rating). - Remember brakes are required on trailers.
41TOWING
- For Light Trucks, make sure that you keep a
minimum of 10 of the trailers total weight on
the trailer hitch -- required for stability. - Remember that the total weight of the tow vehicle
plus its payload plus the trailer and its
payload equals the GCW. The GCW can not exceed
the GCWR!! - Remember automatic transmissions can generally
tow greater loads than manual transmissions.
