India ( December 18, 2006) - Also called as the "Forest Rights Act", the

5WHY THE PROJECT ?
- Tribals were earlier considered as encroachers
upon forest land. - They were cultivating the land but were unable
to improve the land. - The status of land and the tribals was not
matching to that of khatedari
lands and khatedar farmers respectively. - After giving pattas to them, they got rights on
the land but they didn't have enough funds to
improve the productive capacity (fertility of
soil etc.) of the land. -
6WHY THE PROJECT ?
- For development of land, activities permitted
under MGNREGS are initiated.
- To improve overall socio-economic condition of
tribals, convergence with related departments is
being undertaken. - Total nine hundred fifty five (955) sanctions
have been issued so far. - Remaining ones are under process.
- Similar process can be adopted for other
vulnerable groups also.
