Title: The Three Elijah’s

1
The Three Elijahs
2
Those who took part in the establishment of our
work upon a foundation of Bible truth, those who
know the waymarks that have pointed out the right
path, are to be regarded as workers of the
highest value. They can speak from personal
experience, regarding the truths entrusted to
them. These men are not to permit their faith to
be changed to infidelity they are not to permit
the banner of the third angel to be taken from
their hands. They are to hold the beginning of
their confidence firm unto the end. The
Lord has declared that the history of the past
shall be rehearsed as we enter upon the closing
work. Every truth that He has given for these
last days is to be proclaimed to the world. Every
pillar that He has established is to be
strengthened. We cannot now step off the
foundation that God has established. We cannot
now enter into any new organization for this
would mean apostasy from the truth.--. 2SM 389

Unlawful Relationship Between Jezebel and Ahab
1 Kings 1630-33 And Ahab the son of Omri did
evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were
before him. And it came to pass, as if it had
been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife
Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the
Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and
worshipped him. And he reared up an altar for
Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in
Samaria. And Ahab made a grove and Ahab did more
to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than
all the kings of Israel that were before him. In
his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho he
laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his
firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his
youngest son Segub, according to the word of the
LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.
7
Jezebel Pulls the Strings
  • 1 Kings 21 8-10
  • So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and
sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters
unto the elders and to the nobles that were in
his city, dwelling with Naboth. And she wrote in
the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set
Naboth on high among the people And set two men,
sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness
against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and
the king. And then carry him out, and stone him,
    that he may die.

8
Weak King
1 Kings 2125 But there was none like unto Ahab,
which did sell himself to work wickedness in the
sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred
up
9
Ahab was weak in moral power. His union by
marriage with an idolatrous woman of decided
character and positive temperament resulted
disastrously both to himself and to the nation.
Unprincipled, and with no high standard of right
doing, his character was easily molded by the
determined spirit of Jezebel. His selfish nature
was incapable of appreciating the mercies of God
to Israel and his own obligations as the guardian
and leader of the chosen people. Under the
blighting influence of Ahab's rule, Israel
wandered far from the living God and corrupted
their ways before Him. For many years they had
been losing their sense of reverence and godly
fear and now it seemed as if there were none who
dared expose their lives by openly standing forth
in opposition to the prevailing blasphemy. The
dark shadow of apostasy covered the whole land.
Images of Baalim and Ashtoreth were everywhere to
be seen. Idolatrous temples and consecrated
groves, wherein were worshiped the works of men's
hands, were multiplied. The air was polluted with
the smoke of the sacrifices offered to false
gods. Hill and vale resounded with the drunken
cries of a heathen priesthood who sacrificed to
the sun, moon, and stars. Through the influence
of Jezebel and her impious priests, the people
were taught that the idol gods that had been set
up were deities, ruling by their mystic power the
elements of earth, fire, and water. All the
bounties of heaven--the running brooks, the
streams of living water, the gentle dew, the
showers of rain which refreshed the earth and
caused the fields to bring forth abundantly--were
ascribed to the favor of Baal and Ashtoreth,
instead of to the Giver of every good and perfect
gift. The people forgot that the hills and
valleys, the streams and fountains, were in the
hand of the living God, that He controlled the
sun, the clouds of heaven, and all the powers of
nature. PK 115

Amalgamation
1 Kings 1821 And Elijah came unto all the
people, and said, How long halt ye between two
opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him but if
Baal, then follow him. And the people answered
him not a word.
11
Mass Murderer
1 Kings 184-13 For it was so, when Jezebel cut
off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took
an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a
cave, and fed them with bread and water.
12
Jezebel
2 Kings 922 And it came to pass, when Joram saw
Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he
answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of
thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so
many?
13
False Prophets
Accomplish Jezebel's Purpose 1 Kings 1819
Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel
unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four
hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves
four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

1 Kings 2122 And he forsook the LORD God of his
fathers, and walked not in the way of the LORD.

Turn Hearts Back
Malachi 45-6 Remember ye the law of Moses my
servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for
all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
before the coming of the great and dreadful day
of the LORD And he shall turn the heart of the
fathers to the children, and the heart of the
children to their fathers, lest I come and smite
the earth with a curse.
17
Turn Hearts Back
1 Kings 1837 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this
people may know that thou art the LORD God, and
that thou hast turned their heart back again.
18
Turn Hearts Back
Luke 1 16 And many of the children of Israel
shall he turn to the Lord their God
Matthew 1711 And Jesus answered and said unto
them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore
all things.
19
Restore True Worship
1 Kings 18 30,31,36 31- And Elijah took twelve
stones, according to the number of the tribes of
the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD
came, saying, Israel shall be thy name   32-
And with the stones he built an altar in the name
of the LORD and he made a trench about the
altar, as great as would contain two measures of
seed. 36- And it came to pass at the time of
the offering of the evening sacrifice, that
Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God
of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known
this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I
am thy servant, and that I have done all these
things at thy word.
20
Troubler of Israel
1 Kings 1818 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw
Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that
troubleth Israel?  And he answered, I have not
troubled Israel but thou, and thy father's
house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments
of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim
21
Yet notwithstanding these evidences of God's
power, Israel repented not, nor learned the
lesson that God would have them learn. They did
not see that He who created nature controls her
laws, and can make of them instruments of
blessing or of destruction. Proud hearted,
enamored of their false worship, they were
unwilling to humble themselves under the mighty
hand of God, and they began to cast about for
some other cause to which to attribute their
sufferings. Jezebel utterly refused to recognize
the drought as a judgment from Jehovah.
Unyielding in her determination to defy the God
of heaven, she, with nearly the whole of Israel,
united in denouncing Elijah as the cause of all
their misery. Had he not borne testimony against
their forms of worship? If only he could be put
out of the way, she argued, the anger of their
gods would be appeased, and their troubles would
end. PK 126.1Urged on by the queen, Ahab
instituted a most diligent search for the hiding
place of the prophet. To the surrounding nations,
far and near, he sent messengers to seek for the
man whom he hated, yet feared and in his anxiety
to make the search as thorough as possible, he
required of these kingdoms and nations an oath
that they knew nothing of the whereabouts of the
prophet. But the search was in vain. The prophet
was safe from the malice of the king whose sins
had brought upon the land the denunciation of an
offended God. Failing in her efforts against
Elijah, Jezebel determined to avenge herself by
slaying all the prophets of Jehovah in Israel.
Not one should be left alive. The infuriated
woman carried out her purpose in the massacre of
many of God's servants. Not all, however,
perished. Obadiah, the governor of Ahab's house,
yet faithful to God, "took an hundred prophets,"
and at the risk of his own life, "hid them by
fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and
water." 1 Kings 184. PK p126

Flee to the Wilderness to be Sustained by God
1 Kings 17 3-6 Get thee hence, and turn thee
eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith,
that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that
thou shalt drink of the brook and I have
commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he
went and did according unto the word of the LORD
for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that
is before Jordan. And the ravens brought him
bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and
flesh in the evening and he drank of the brook.

Valley Of Decision
1 Kings 1821 22  And Elijah came unto all the
people, and said, How long halt ye between two
opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him but if
Baal, then follow him. And the people answered
him not a word. Then said Elijah unto the
people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the
LORD but Baal's prophets are four hundred and
fifty men.
24
Contrast of Worship Styles on the Mount
1 Kings 1826-29 And they took the bullock which
was given them, and they dressed it, and called
on the name of Baal from morning even until noon,
saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice,
nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the
altar which was made. And it came to pass at
noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry
aloud for he is a god either he is talking, or
he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or
peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.
And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after
their manner with knives and lancets, till the
blood gushed out upon them. And it came to pass,
when midday was past, and they prophesied until
the time of the offering of the evening
sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any
to answer, nor any that regarded.
25
Contrast of Worship Styles on Mount
1 Kings 1836-39 And it came to pass at the
time of the offering of the evening sacrifice,
that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD
God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be
known this day that thou art God in Israel, and
that I am thy servant, and that I have done all
these things at thy word. Hear me, O LORD, hear
me, that this people may know that thou art the
LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart
back again. Then the fire of the LORD fell, and
consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and
the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water
that was in the trench. And when all the people
saw it, they fell on their faces and they said,
The LORD, he is the God the LORD, he is the God.

Brings Back True Worship
26
PK P 153 No sooner is the prayer of Elijah ended
than flames of fire, like brilliant flashes of
lightning, descend from heaven upon the upreared
altar, consuming the sacrifice, licking up the
water in the trench, and consuming even the
stones of the altar. The brilliancy of the blaze
illumines the mountain and dazzles the eyes of
the multitude. In the valleys below, where many
are watching in anxious suspense the movements of
those above, the descent of fire is clearly seen,
and all are amazed at the sight. It resembles the
pillar of fire which at the Red Sea separated the
children of Israel from the Egyptian host.
27
Prophets of Baal Slew
1 Kings 1840 And Elijah said unto them, Take the
prophets of Baal let not one of them escape. And
they took them and Elijah brought them down to
the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
28
And They Repent NOT!
PK P154 The priests of Baal witness with
consternation the wonderful revelation of
Jehovah's power. Yet even in their discomfiture
and in the presence of divine glory, they refuse
to repent of their evil-doing. They would still
remain the prophets of Baal. Thus they showed
themselves ripe for destruction. That repentant
Israel may be protected from the allurements of
those who have taught them to worship Baal,
Elijah is directed by the Lord to destroy these
false teachers. The anger of the people has
already been aroused against the leaders in
transgression and when Elijah gives the command,
"Take the prophets of Baal let not one of them
escape," they are ready to obey. They seize the
priests, and take them to the brook Kishon, and
there, before the close of the day that marked
the beginning of decided reform, the ministers of
Baal are slain. Not one is permitted to live.
29
Destruction of Jezebel Ahab
1 Kings 2123-24 And of Jezebel also spake the
LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the
wall of Jezreel. Him that dieth of Ahab in the
city the dogs shall eat and him that dieth in
the field shall the fowls of the air eat.
30
Death of Jezebel
1 Kings 932 36 And when Jehu was come to
Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it and she painted her
face, and tired her head, and looked out at a
window. And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she
said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master And he
lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who
is on my side? who? And there looked out to him
two or three eunuchs. And he said, Throw her
down. So they threw her down and some of her
blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the
horses and he trode her under foot. And when he
was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go,
see now this cursed woman, and bury her for she
is a king's daughter. And they went to bury her
but they found no more of her than the skull, and
the feet, and the palms of her hands. Wherefore
they came again, and told him. And he said, This
is the word of the LORD, which he spake by his
servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the
portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of
Jezebel
31
Delay - Disappointment
1 Kings 1843-44 And said to his servant, Go up
now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and
looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said,
Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the
seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth
a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand.
And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy
chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop
thee not.
32
Translation of Elijah
2 Kings 211-12 And it came to pass, as they
still went on, and talked, that, behold, there
appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire,
and parted them both asunder and Elijah went up
by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it,
and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot
of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw
him no more and he took hold of his own clothes,
and rent them in two pieces.

35
Message for Israel
Luke 1 16 And many of the children of Israel
shall he turn to the Lord their God And he shall
go before him in the spirit and power of Elias,
to turn the hearts of the fathers to the
children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of
the just to make ready a people prepared for the
Lord.
36
Prepare the Way
Matthew 1711-13 And his disciples asked him,
saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must
first come? And Jesus answered and said unto
them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore
all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is
come already, and they knew him not, but have
done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise
shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then
the disciples understood that he spake unto them
of John the Baptist.
37
Prepare the Way
Luke 1110 For this is he, of whom it is written,
Behold, I send my messenger before thy face,
which shall prepare thy way before thee.

38
DA 135.1 The voice of him that crieth in the
wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make
straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain
and hill shall be made low and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain and
the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all
flesh shall see it together." Isa. 401-5,
margin. Anciently, when a king journeyed through
the less frequented parts of his dominion, a
company of men was sent ahead of the royal
chariot to level the steep places and to fill up
the hollows, that the king might travel in safety
and without hindrance. This custom is employed by
the prophet to illustrate the work of the gospel.
"Every valley shall be exalted, and every
mountain and hill shall be made low." When the
Spirit of God, with its marvelous awakening
power, touches the soul, it abases human pride.
Worldly pleasure and position and power are seen
to be worthless. "Imaginations, and every high
thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge
of God" are cast down every thought is brought
into captivity "to the obedience of Christ." 2
Cor. 105. Then humility and self-sacrificing
love, so little valued among men, are exalted as
alone of worth. This is the work of the gospel,
of which John's message was a part.
39
Restore Commandments
Mark 618 For John had said unto Herod, It is not
lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
40
Judgement Message
Matthew 310-11 And now also the axe is laid
unto the root of the trees therefore every tree
which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down,
and cast into the fire. I indeed baptize you
with water unto repentance. but he that cometh
after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not
worthy to bear he shall baptize you with the
Holy Ghost, and with fire Whose fan is in his
hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and
gather his wheat into the garner but he will
burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire
41
2nd Elijahs 3 Enemies
Mark 614-17 And king Herod heard of him (for
his name was spread abroad) and he said, That
John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and
therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves
in him.  Others said, That it is Elias. And
others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of
the prophets.  But when Herod heard thereof, he
said, It is John, whom I beheaded he is risen
from the dead.  For Herod himself had sent forth
and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison
for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife
for he had married her.
42
Herodias
Mark 618-19 For John had said unto Herod, It
is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's
wife. Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against
him, and would have killed him but she could
not
43
Dance of Deception
Mark 621-22 And when a convenient day was come,
that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his
lords, high captains, and chief estates of
Galilee And when the daughter of the said
Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod
and them that sat with him, the king said unto
the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I
will give it thee. And he sware unto her,
Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it
thee, unto the half of my kingdom. And she went
forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I
ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
And she came in straightway with haste unto the
king, and asked, saying, I will that thou give me
by and by in a charger the head of John the
Baptist.
44
The Kill
Mark 627-28 And immediately the king sent an
executioner, and commanded his head to be
brought and he went and beheaded him in the
prison, And brought his head in a charger, and
gave it to the damsel and the damsel gave it to
her mother.
45
Another Elijah
Malachi 45-6 Remember ye the law of Moses my
servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for
all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet
before the coming of the great and dreadful day
of the LORD And he shall turn the heart of the
fathers to the children, and the heart of the
children to their fathers, lest I come and smite
the earth with a curse.
46
Repetition
The work of John the Baptist, and the work of
those who in the last days go forth in the spirit
and power of Elijah to arouse the people from
their apathy, are in many respects the same. His
work is a type of the work that must be done in
this age. Christ is to come the second time to
judge the world in righteousness. The messengers
of God who bear the last message of warning to be
given to the world, are to prepare the way for
Christ's second advent, as John prepared the way
for his first advent. In this preparatory work,
"every valley shall be exalted, and every
mountain shall be made low and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain"
for history is to be repeated, and once again
"the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all
flesh shall see it together for the mouth of the
Lord hath spoken it." SW, March 21, 1905 par.

Thyatira
Revelation 220-23 Notwithstanding I have a few
things against thee, because thou sufferest that
woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a
prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to
commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed
unto idols. And I gave her space (chronos) to
repent of her fornication and she repented not.
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them
that commit adultery with her into great
tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
And I will kill her children with death and all
the churches shall know that I am he which
searcheth the reins and hearts and I will give
unto every one of you according to your works.

space (chronos)
Revelation 124-5 And they worshipped the dragon
which gave power unto the beast and they
worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto
the beast? who is able to make war with him?
And there was given unto him a mouth speaking
great things and blasphemies and power was given
unto him to continue forty and two months.
51
Time
Daniel 725 And he shall speak great words
against the most High, and shall wear out the
saints of the most High, and think to change
times and laws and they shall be given into his
hand until a time and times and the dividing of
time.
52
No Rain
Revelation 113-6 And I will give power unto my
two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand
two hundred and threescore days, clothed in
sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and
the two candlesticks standing before the God of
the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire
proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth
their enemies and if any man will hurt them, he
must in this manner be killed. These have power
to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of
their prophecy and have power over waters to
turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with
all plagues, as often as they will.
53
Famine of the Word of God
Hosea 811-12 Behold, the days come, saith the
Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land,
not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,
but of hearing the words of the LORD And they
shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north
even to the east, they shall run to and fro to
seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

Elijah Returns After 1798
As he (Miller) followed down the prophecies, he
saw that the inhabitants of the earth were living
in the closing scenes of this world's history,
yet they knew it not. He looked at the churches
and saw that they were corrupt they had taken
their affections from Jesus and placed them on
the world they were seeking for worldly honor,
instead of that honor which cometh from above
grasping for worldly riches, instead of laying up
their treasure in heaven. He could see hypocrisy,
darkness, and death everywhere. His spirit was
stirred within him. God called him to leave his
farm, as He called Elisha to leave his oxen and
the field of his labor to follow Elijah. With
trembling, William Miller began to unfold to the
people the mysteries of the kingdom of God,
carrying his hearers down through the prophecies
to the second advent of Christ. With every effort
he gained strength. As John the Baptist heralded
the first advent of Jesus and prepared the way
for His coming, so William Miller and those who
joined with him proclaimed the second advent of
the Son of God. EW 229.2
57
Elijah Returns
Thousands were led to embrace the truth preached
by William Miller, and servants of God were
raised up in the spirit and power of Elijah to
proclaim the message. Like John, the forerunner
of Jesus, those who preached this solemn message
felt compelled to lay the ax at the root of the
tree, and call upon men to bring forth fruits
meet for repentance. Their testimony was
calculated to arouse and powerfully affect the
churches and manifest their real character. And
as the solemn warning to flee from the wrath to
come was sounded, many who were united with the
churches received the healing message they saw
their backslidings, and with bitter tears of
repentance and deep agony of soul, humbled
themselves before God. And as the Spirit of God
rested upon them, they helped to sound the cry,
"Fear God, and give glory to Him for the hour of
His judgment is come." EW 233.1
58
Power From On High
Revelation 101-6 And I saw another mighty
angel come down from heaven, clothed with a
cloud and a rainbow was upon his head, and his
face was as it were the sun, and his feet as
pillars of fire  And he had in his hand a little
book open and he set his right foot upon the
sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried
with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth and
when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their
voices.  And when the seven thunders had uttered
their voices, I was about to write and I heard a
voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those
things which the seven thunders uttered, and
write them not. And the angel which I saw stand
upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his
hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for
ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things
that therein are, and the earth, and the things
that therein are, and the sea, and the things
which are therein, that there should be time no
longer
59
Power from on High
The advent movement of 1840-44 was a glorious
manifestation of the power of God the first
angel's message was carried to every missionary
station in the world, and in some countries there
was the greatest religious interest which has
been witnessed in any land since the Reformation
of the sixteenth century but these are to be
exceeded by the mighty movement under the last
warning of the third angel. GC 611.1

Power From On High
This was the midnight cry, which was to give
power to the second angel's message. Angels were
sent from heaven to arouse the discouraged saints
and prepare them for the great work before them.
The most talented men were not the first to
receive this message. Angels were sent to the
humble, devoted ones, and constrained them to
raise the cry, "Behold, the Bridegroom cometh go
ye out to meet Him!" Those entrusted with the cry
made haste, and in the power of the Holy Spirit
sounded the message, and aroused their
discouraged brethren. This work did not stand in
the wisdom and learning of men, but in the power
of God, and His saints who heard the cry could
not resist it. The most spiritual received this
message first, and those who had formerly led in
the work were the last to receive and help swell
the cry, "Behold, the Bridegroom cometh go ye
out to meet Him!" In every part of the land,
light was given upon the second angel's message,
and the cry melted the hearts of thousands. It
went from city to city, and from village to
village, until the waiting people of God were
fully aroused. In many churches the message was
not permitted to be given, and a large company
who had the living testimony left these fallen
churches. A mighty work was accomplished by the
midnight cry. The message was heart-searching,
leading the believers to seek a living experience
for themselves. They knew that they could not
lean upon one another. EW 238

The Delay / Disappointment
Revelation 1010 And I took the little book out
of the angel's hand, and ate it up and it was in
my mouth sweet as honey and as soon as I had
eaten it, my belly was bitter.
62
Seven Thunders
Revelation 104 And when the seven thunders had
uttered their voices, I was about to write and I
heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up
those things which the seven thunders uttered,
and write them not.
63
Seven Thunders
The special light given to John which was
expressed in the seven thunders was a delineation
of events which would transpire under the first
and second angels' messages. It was not best for
the people to know these things, for their faith
must necessarily be tested. In the order of God
most wonderful and advanced truths would be
proclaimed. The first and second angels' messages
were to be proclaimed, but no further light was
to be revealed before these messages had done
their specific work. This is represented by the
angel standing with one foot on the sea,
proclaiming with a most solemn oath that time
should be no longer. 7BC 971.6
64
Seven Thunders
  • After these seven thunders uttered their voices,
the injunction comes to John as to Daniel in
regard to the little book "Seal up those things
which the seven thunders uttered." These relate
to future events which will be disclosed in their
order. Daniel shall stand in his lot at the end
of the days. John sees the little book unsealed.
Then Daniel's prophecies have their proper place
in the first, second, and third angels' messages
to be given to the world. The unsealing of the
little book was the message in relation to time.

Component of 3 parts
Revelation 1619 And the great city was divided
into three parts, and the cities of the nations
fell and great Babylon came in remembrance
before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine
of the fierceness of his wrath.

Who are the 3 Parts
Revelation 1613 And I saw three unclean
spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the
dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and
out of the mouth of the false prophet
69
Dragon
Revelation 124 And his tail drew the third part
of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the
earth and the dragon stood before the woman
which was ready to be delivered, for to devour
her child as soon as it was born.

  • Ezekiel 293
  • Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD Behold,
I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the
great dragon that lieth in the midst of his
rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own,
and I have made it for myself.

71
Kings and rulers and governors have placed upon
themselves the brand of antichrist, and are
represented as the dragon who goes to make war
with the saints--with those who keep the
commandments of God and who have the faith of
Jesus. In their enmity against the people of God,
they show themselves guilty also of the choice of
Barabbas instead of Christ. TM 38.2

Beast
  • Revelation 13 1-3
  • And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw
a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven
heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten
crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
And the beast which I saw was like unto a
leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear,
and his mouth as the mouth of a lion and the
dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and
great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it
were wounded to death and his deadly wound was
healed and all the world wondered after the
    beast.

73
Beast
  • Revelation 171,3,5
  • 1- And there came one of the seven angels which
had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying
unto me, Come hither I will shew unto thee the
judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon
    many waters
  • 3- So he carried me away in the spirit into the
wilderness and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet
coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy,
having seven heads and ten horns.
  • 5- And upon her forehead was a name written,
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
    AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

False Prophet
Rev 1311 18 And I beheld another beast coming
up out of the earth and he had two horns like a
lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth
all the power of the first beast before him, and
causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to
worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was
healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he
maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in
the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell
on the earth by the means of those miracles which
he had power to do in the sight of the beast
saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they
should make an image to the beast, which had the
wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power
to give life unto the image of the beast, that
the image of the beast should both speak, and
cause that as many as would not worship the image
of the beast should be killed. And he causeth
all, both small and great, rich and poor, free
and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand,
or in their foreheads And that no man might buy
or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name
of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is
wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the
number of the beast for it is the number of a
man and his number is Six hundred threescore and
six.

False Prophet
Revelation 1920 And the beast was taken, and
with him the false prophet that wrought miracles
before him, with which he deceived them that had
received the mark of the beast, and them that
worshipped his image. These both were cast alive
into a lake of fire burning with brimstone

Power from on High
  • Revelation 181-5
  • And after these things I saw another angel
come down from heaven, having great power and
the earth was lightened with his glory. And he
cried mightily with a strong voice, saying,
Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is
become the habitation of devils, and the hold of
every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean
and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of
the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the
kings of the earth have committed fornication
with her, and the merchants of the earth are
waxed rich through the abundance of her
delicacies. And I heard another voice from
heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that
ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye
receive not of her plagues. For her sins have
reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her
    iniquities.

80
When Jesus began His public ministry, He cleansed
the Temple from its sacrilegious profanation.
Among the last acts of His ministry was the
second cleansing of the Temple. So in the last
work for the warning of the world, two distinct
calls are made to the churches. The second
angel's message is, "Babylon is fallen, is
fallen, that great city, because she made all
nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her
fornication" (Rev. 148). And in the loud cry of
the third angel's message a voice is heard from
heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, that
ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye
receive not of her plagues. For her sins have
reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her
iniquities" (Rev. 184, 5).--The Review and
Herald, Dec. 6, 1892.

as he descended to the earth in power and
majesty, he proclaimed a fearful warning, with
the most terrible threatening ever borne to

Gods People Flee
  • The people of God will not be free from
suffering but while persecuted and distressed,
while they endure privation and suffer for want
of food they will not be left to perish. That God
who cared for Elijah will not pass by one of His
self-sacrificing children. He who numbers the
hairs of their head will care for them, and in
time of famine they shall be satisfied. While the
wicked are dying from hunger and pestilence,
angels will shield the righteous and supply their
wants. To him that "walketh righteously" is the
promise "Bread shall be given him his waters
shall be sure." "When the poor and needy seek
water, and there is none, and their tongue
faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I
the God of Israel will not forsake them." Isaiah
    3315, 16 4117. GC 629.2

Their Destruction
False Prophet
The people see that they have been deluded. They
accuse one another of having led them to
destruction but all unite in heaping their
bitterest condemnation upon the ministers.
Unfaithful pastors have prophesied smooth things
they have led their hearers to make void the law
of God and to persecute those who would keep it
holy. Now, in their despair, these teachers
confess before the world their work of deception.
The multitudes are filled with fury. "We are
lost!" they cry, "and you are the cause of our
ruin" and they turn upon the false shepherds.
The very ones that once admired them most will
pronounce the most dreadful curses upon them. The
very hands that once crowned them with laurels
will be raised for their destruction. The swords
which were to slay God's people are now employed
to destroy their enemies. Everywhere there is
strife and bloodshed. GC 655 -656

Their Destruction
Jezebel
And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the
beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make
her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh,
and burn her with fire. Revelation 1716
And the angel thrust in his sickle into the
earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and
cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of
God.  And the winepress was trodden without the
city, and blood came out of the winepress, even
unto the horse bridles, by the space of a
thousand and six hundred furlongs Revelation
1419-20
And I saw an angel standing in the sun and he
cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls
that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather
yourselves together unto the supper of the great
God That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the
flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men,
and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on
them, and the flesh of all men, both free and
bond, both small and great. And the remnant were
slain with the sword of him that sat upon the
horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth
and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Christs coming
Soon there appears in the east a small black
cloud, about half the size of a man's hand. It is
the cloud which surrounds the Saviour and which
seems in the distance to be shrouded in darkness.
The people of God know this to be the sign of the
Son of man. In solemn silence they gaze upon it
as it draws nearer the earth, becoming lighter
and more glorious, until it is a great white
cloud, its base a glory like consuming fire, and
above it the rainbow of the covenant. GC P640

Christs Coming
  • In each side of the cloudy chariot are wings, and
beneath it are living wheels and as the chariot
rolls upward, the wheels cry, "Holy," and the
wings, as they move, cry, "Holy," and the retinue
of angels cry, "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God

The Three Angels' Messages.--The proclamation of
the first, second, and third angels' messages has
been located by the word of Inspiration. Not a
peg or pin is to be removed. No human authority
has any more right to change the location of
these messages than to substitute the New
Testament for the Old. The Old Testament is the
gospel in figures and symbols. The New Testament
is the substance. One is as essential as the
other. The Old Testament presents lessons from
the lips of Christ, and these lessons have not
lost their force in any particular. The first and
second messages were given in 1843 and 1844, and
we are now under the proclamation of the third
but all three of the messages are still to be
proclaimed. It is just as essential now as ever
before that they shall be repeated to those who
are seeking for the truth. By pen and voice we
are to sound the proclamation, showing their
order, and the application of the prophecies that
bring us to the third angel's message. There
cannot be a third without the first and second.
These messages we are to give to the world in
publications, in discourses, showing in the line
of prophetic history the things that have been,
and the things that will be.--Manuscript 32,
1896.

I was shown three steps-- the first, second, and
third angels' messages. Said my accompanying
angel, "Woe to him who shall move a block or stir
a pin of these messages. The true understanding
of these messages is of vital importance. The
destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which
they are received." I was again brought down
through these messages, and saw how dearly the
people of God had purchased their experience. It
had been obtained through much suffering and
severe conflict. God had led them along step by
step, until He had placed them upon a solid,
immovable platform. EW P259
