Contractor Orientation
  • Learning job safety through experience is

Purpose
  • To provide uniform set of Safety and Health
    guidelines RULES
  • LAFARGE requires and expects contractors
    performing work, to implement standards and work
    practices that adhere to Lafarges Safety and
    Health standards.

OSHA
  • OSHA 1910 General Industry is the federal
    regulations and guidelines that our plant is
    required to follow.
  • OSHA 1926 Construction is the regulations that
    most of you should be familiar with, while they
    are both federal regulations and have similar
    standards there are differences.

Responsibilities
  • It will be the responsibility of each contractor
    to insure that all personnel assigned with
    receive safety orientation.
  • It is not Lafarges responsibility to train
    contractor employees in matters of safety and
    health, this is just an orientation.
  • This will be a review/orientation of LAFARGEs
    requirements relating to safety and health.

Safety and Health Equipment
  • All required safety and health equipment will be
    provided to your employees by you.
  • All PPE, Locks, Fall Protection, Confined Space
    monitoring equipment and anything else that may
    be required will not be supplied by LAFARGE, this
    will be your employers responsibility to supply.

General Safety Rules
  • Report all injuries and unsafe conditions
    immediately.
  • Approved safety glasses, safety shoes and hard
    hats will be worn at all times except as
    designated.
  • Gloves will be worn when handling materials or
    equipment with sharp edges or burrs.
  • Riding on mobile equipment is prohibited.
  • When working around mobile equipment keep a safe
    distance, watch and listen for signals.
  • Everyone will follow Lockout/Tagout Policy.

  • Each employee is responsible for his/her work
    area. Keep It Clean! Keep floors, walkways,
    stairways and passageways free of tripping
    hazards.
  • Clean up all spills immediately. Notify
    supervisor if the spill is anything other than
    water, coffee, soda, etc.
  • Employees must wear safe, sensible clothing.
    Shorts are not permitted.
  • Long hair and jewelry create extreme hazards
    around machinery, and therefore are not
    recommended.
  • Hearing protection will be worn in designated
    areas.

  • Face shields must be worn in addition to safety
    glasses with using grinding, welding or other
    equipment where the eyes/face may be injured
    because of flying material.
  • When working in open areas where energized
    equipment must be exposed, where there are open
    pits or trenches, or where overhead work is in
    progress, the area shall be barricaded with
    safety line or caution tape to warn other workers
    of the hazard.
  • Always use the proper tools for the job. Do not
    use tools with broken handles, with mushroomed or
    broken heads.

  • Never operate any machinery or equipments unless
    you are familiar with its operations and have
    been authorized to do so.
  • Smoking is not permitted within any of the
    facilities or equipment.
  • Flammable materials shall not be placed or stored
    near electrical equipment, ovens or any areas
    where hot and/or molten metal is handled.

  • Employees must not be under the influence of any
    controlled substance or alcohol while at work.
  • Horseplay is dangerous and unsafe and not allowed
    on company property.
  • Machine guards are provided for your protection.
    Do not removed unless the lockout/tagout
    procedure is followed. Reinstall guard before
    restarting the machinery.
  • Use electric powered air to clean clothing at
    designated clean-off stations and not
    compressed air.

ENVIRONMENTAL
  • Lafarge must be notified of all Chemical brought
    or our site
  • Flammable and/or toxic liquids (paint, gasoline,
    solvents, etc) must be stored in approved and
    appropriate storage cabinets.
  • Obey the speed limit

  • Ambulance Station 121 Grinding
  • Ambulance Station 320 - Granulation

Fire Emergency
  • Extinguishers (ABC)
  • Never touch burning person or object
  • Turn off power
  • Never use water on an Electrical fire
  • Sound the alarm

Confined Space
  • OSHA standard 1910-146 defines a confined space
    as any area that meets all of the following three
    criteria
  • Large enough and configures that an employee can
    enter and perform assigned work.
  • Has limited or restricted means of entry or exit.
  • Is not designated for continuous human occupancy.
  • Confined spaces at this plant include, but are
    not limited to the following Cold Runners,
    Agitation Tanks, Filter Beds, Slag Silos, Dryer,
    Mills Hoppers, Pits and Separators

Confined Space Entry Program
  • Preparation Checklist must be completed prior
    to entry.
  • MSA equipment is available for atmosphere
    testing.
  • Log Book Control Room

Accident Reporting/Investigation
  • All accidents are reported to the immediate
    supervisor at the time of, or in a reasonable
    time after the occurrence.
  • In no case should your shift end without the
    proper reporting of an accident, incident or
    near-miss.
  • If they are not reported, the effectiveness of
    our safety program is compromised.

Accident Investigation
  • A successful accident investigation should be
    conducted to determine facts and not to assign
    blame.

JOBSITE HOUSEKEEPING
  • Contractor shall maintain a high standard of
    housekeeping on the construction site at all
    times as an integral part of the work.
  • The purpose of this requirement is to ensure the
    safety of all personnel entering the Project Site
    and to maintain a condition of housekeeping that
    is consistent with the desired appearance of a
    LAFARGE Project Site.
  • Fire hazard caused by poor housekeeping in a
    Project Site can endanger nearby buildings and
    personnel outside the Project Site.

  • Enforcement of these requirements is the
    responsibility of Contractor and inspections will
    be conducted by representatives of LAFARGE on a
    periodic basis.
  • Daily cleanup of work and fabrication area is
    required, and must be performed as required by
    the LAFARGE Supervisor in charge.
  • Park in the back parking lot
  • Clean off before breaks
  • Lunch
