2What is Tech Prep?
- A nationwide career development program starting
in high school - Planned program of study incorporates academic
and career related courses - Tech Prep program can lead to an associates
degree, or certification from technical college
or foundations for 4 year degree from liberal
arts or engineering college
3Secondary Administration Will Provide
- On-going advisement to students, parents
- Program of study with sequenced courses
- Annual review signed by student, parent, and
high school counselor showing student has
achieved 80 proficiency on critical coursework - Opportunities for student visits to post-
secondary institutions
4Postsecondary administration will
- Grant credit in postsecondary courses to students
who continue Program of Study within 18 months of
graduating from high school. - Facilitate student visits to meet with staff and
take tours of campus - Provide secondary students with admission
criteria, policies, procedures for entry into
postsecondary
5Both Schools Will Collaborate
- Maximum secondary credit hours will not exceed
50 of postsecondary program hours - List of courses/standards aligned with schools
- Provide partner school with changes in courses
- Insure that all instructors in both partner
schools meet annually to evaluate curriculum
content of the agreement - Reserve 25 available openings for high school
Tech Prep who meet admission requirements
6The Tech Prep Student Will
- Follow approved plan including 2 to 4 years of
secondary coursework and a minimum of 2 years
postsecondary coursework - Take postsecondary entrance exam preferably
during junior year high school (SAT, ACT, ASSET) - Be prepared to graduate from technical college
with a 2-year Associates Degree, 90 Hour
Diploma, Cooperative Degree Diploma, or
foundations for a four-year degree!
7- Jobs of the future will require more technical
skills and life-long learning - 80 of all jobs in the future will require
education beyond high school. - It provides students with a seamless career
program of study between high school and
postsecondary education
8- Builds student competence in math, science, and
communication - Curriculum meets tough academic and technical
standards relevant to occupations - Programs provide for advanced placement in
postsecondary classes - High tech industries and businesses attracted to
communities of technically prepared students.

liberal arts and engineering colleges
