Madrid, Spain
  • In the early 1800s Spain controlled Texas were
several battles were fought causing a great
    impact on Spain.
  • Spain is also known to have been ranked third for
the most monuments with historical value.
  • Spain is very popular for serving Flan, although
    it originated in México.
  • In the letter it was indicated that the father
enjoyed Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientess
painting and it was said that he was from there,
and he was actually born in Fuendetodos,
    Zaragoza, Spain.
  • Spain is also the only country that is
demographically known to speak four languages.

9
Mexico City, Mexico
  • The Texas Revolution took place in Mexico
although Texas was controlled by Spain.
  • Mexico was invaded and forced to believe in the
catholic religion which would cause a major
    impact on the culture.
  • In the 1800s Mexico had a government controlled
    by dictator, Porfirio Díaz.

10
Buenos Aires, Argentina
  • In the 1800s Buenos Aires was attacked by
Britain. Jose de San Martin rebelled against them
and conquered Lima with Simon Bolivar.
  • Argentina is the only country that did not go
through a dictatorship, they were deciding
    between Unitarists and the Federalists.
  • Britain made a great impact on the culture of
Argentina, but it had nothing to do with religion.

Clues
  • In the letter to their daughter they mentioned a
few things that may have given us their location
  • They mentioned something about slang words
  • They said something about there being a type of
music and dance that originated there
  • They also said they had Sangria , a tortilla,
    and a fish dish.
  • They talked about Flan
  • They mentioned Goya and Frida Kahlo, both artists

13
Slang
  • We couldnt seem to get any leads here because
every city has there own form of slang.

14
Flamenco
  • Flamenco is a type of dance that originated in
    Spain.
  • I believe this is the dance they referred to in
the letter, because this is a very famous dance
and spectators come to observe from around the
    world.

15
Food
  • Right away when they said Sangria that gave away
that they were in Madrid because Sangria is a
very popular type of wine made and very popular
    in Spain
  • They mentioned the tortilla and olives
  • The tortilla is very common in the Spanish
culture they can be found where ever Spanish
culture has influenced, which all these cities
have. Then the olives, Spain is known to have
    good olives.
  • Then about the Flan, Flan is also a very
    popular dessert in Spain.

16
Art
  • They had mentioned seeing Goyas paintings in a
    museum.
  • Most of Goyas paintings are stored in Madrid,
and the others werent in the other suspected
    cities.
  • Then Frida Kohlas paintings are in Mexico, but
there may be one in madrid.

Culture
  • By Derek Springsteen (Cultural Expert)

18
  • The letter also states that the most prominent
religion of the area is Catholicism. Through
research we have found that again, all of the
possible locations are potentially the Cruzs
    hiding spot.
  • We know from the letter that Carlos Cristina
Cruz are located near El Centro. But there is
an El Centro in all of the three possible
cities. The countries below are all possible
    locations for the Cruzs.

19
  • In the letter there is a section which says that
there was a wonderful dance, that is indigenous
to this country, but all of the possible
countries have a dance that is native to them.
  • But they also
  • said that during
  • the dance there was a meal served which was
composed of sangria (wine), along with olives,
"tortilla", and some amazing fish dish. Which is
    a very Spanish dish.

20
  • In the letter, it is mentioned that the place
where they are, there are four languages spoken.
We have found there are four languages commonly
spoken in Spain, unlike the other two.
  • These four languages
  • are Spanish, Catalan,
  • Galician and Basque.
  • Spain is the country mentioned in the letter that
holds the claim to fame for having the second
largest fish market in the world, behind Tokyo.
    This provides a

21
  • Mostly all of the cultural clues in the letter
point suggest that the Cruzes are currently
    located in Madrid Spain.
