7We need to do a better job teaching financial
smarts to todays kidsThis bill (the Youth
Financial Education Act) will give our teachers
and schools extra resources and encourage them to
teach financial literacy to kids. (Congressman
David Dreier, R-CA, Chairman of the House Rules
Committee)
8H.R. 2871, The Youth Financial Education
Act(would) help improve the financial literacy
of our youth by authorizing grants to states of
at least 500,000 to carry out financial
education programs in elementary and secondary
schools. (Dollars Sense)
9States need to recognize that high school is the
appropriate time and place to provide young
adults with meaningful instruction in personal
finance, and they must mandate the inclusion of
highly interactive, creative and applied courses
in personal finance within their high school
curriculum standards. (Dr. Lewis
Mandell, Dean, School of Management, University
of Buffalo
10Organizations that already work with high school
students, such as the Securities Industry
Foundation for Economics Education, Junior
Achievement, and the National Council on Economic
Education, should be encouraged to develop
curricula that facilitates sound basic financial
decision making that is relevant to young adults.
(Dr. Lewis Mandell, Dean, School of Management,
University of Buffalo)
11Students can take courses in Multi-variable
Calculus and Advanced Placement Physics, but
personal money management has been mostly ignored
by the nations high schools.
(Lincoln Mayer, Sidwell Friends High School.

at a time. (Lincoln Mayer, Sidwell Friends High

Money Essay Contest.)

the computer, and it must be taught by a teacher
who is qualified. - Permanent hand injuries when young people start
keyboarding at early ages. Health concern among
young people.
23Speech/Voice Recognition
- The Big Three products are now so good and
Microsoft is working so hard to support speech

Barksdale) - Voice Xpress, Naturally Speaking, ViaVoice

28Information Technology, cont.
