Title: This is the opening screen to use Unison. Catalog Plus will take you into the OPAC. Cataloging allow

1
This is the opening screen to use Unison.
Catalog Plus will take you into the OPAC.
Cataloging allows you to change the records, and
circulation take you into the circulation system.
Patron maintenance allows you to access students
records.
2
We will look at Cataloging first. You must enter
a password in order to enter the cataloging
module. The only other option that requires a
password is Patron Maintenance.
3
This is the first screen when entering the
cataloging module. When books come with the
Marc data on a disk, you choose option 3,
Import/Export. Otherwise, you would choose
option 1, Add/Update.
4
At this screen you would choose option 1,
Add/Update Titles.
5
These are the options for finding what you are
going to catalog. Title and barcode are most
often the easiest choices.
6
Here I am entering information on a copy of
Hamlet. The top box is the main information.
Barcodes are 5 or 6 digit numbers. Everything in
the middle portion is specific to our library.
7
This is what the record looks like when the
libraries information is added. The MS in the
call number and the location code means the book
is located in the Middle School library. If the
book were located in the Upper School, these
would be blank if it was the Lower School, they
would be LS.
8
From the cataloging screen, you can check the
copy status of a book. This tells how often the
book has been checked out, and the records from
the last time the book was checked out.
9
This is the Marc records for Hamlet. After
cataloging is done, the only thing we change on
this screen is the local call number (not shown).
10
Going back to the Main Menu, I would choose
Circulation Plus.
11
After choosing Circulation Plus from the main
menu, choose Circulation Plus from the PopUp
menu. That will take you into the Circulation
module.
12
This is the main Circulation menu. For checking
books in and out, choose option 1, Circulation
Desk
13
The menu is setup to immediately to go to the
checkout option.
14
To check a book out, you must first find the
patron who wants the book. You can enter the
first few letters of the last name, and it will
bring up an alphabetical list of patrons.
15
As I am the only one who has the last name
starting with sei, the list goes right to me. To
access my account, simply hit return.
16
This is my patron record.
17
To check the book out to me, I type in the
barcode.
18
The book is now checked out to me. If I want
another book, I simply type in another barcode.
If I wanted to check out a book to another
patron, I would escape from this screen and start
the process over.
19
If I choose F7 from my patron records, I will get
my patron notes, which tells me what I currently
have checked out and when they are due.
20
To check something back in, I move to the Checkin
option.
21
In order to check material in, all you need to do
is enter the barcode.
22
The system will bring up the patron record of
whoever had the book checked out. If the book
had been overdue, this screen would have told me
so.
23
In order to do overdue notices, we go back to the
main circulation menu and choose option 2,
Reports.
24
While we do not fine students for overdue books,
we do send out notices. They are posted on a
bulletin board in the main hall of the school for
the students. From this menu, choose option 1,
Notices.
25
Here we choose the second option, School Notices.
26
Choose option 1, Overdue.
27
This is the main screen to print overdue notices.
Enter the range of patrons, and the dates will
automatically be provided, although you may
change them to whatever you need. From this
screen, press F9 to create the report. Or, if you
want to limit the number of patrons scanned,
choose F5 for Limiters.
28
After running a scan of all patrons, there were
153 patrons with overdue books. This would
include students for all three schools, plus
teachers and staff. Simply choose yes and it
will print the overdue notices.
29
In order to search the catalog, I would choose
Catalog Plus
30
This is the main screen for the Catalog Plus
option, which is the OPAC for my library. There
are many ways to search the catalog.
31
The easiest search to do is by title. You do not
need to type in the full title, just the first
couple of words. It will give you an
alphabetical list from which to choose.
32
If there is only one copy of the book you are
searching for, the catalog will display title,
author, call number, and whether or not the book
is checked in or out. If there is more then one
copy, you will have to choose the book and hit
return.
33
Of the two copies of Little women, one is checked
in and one is checked out. You can also tell
that the book that is checked in is located in
the Lower School, designated by the LS in the
call number. The other, with no designation,
would be located in the Upper School library.
34
This is the record of the copy in the Upper
School. At the bottom, you can see that the
librarys one copy is checked out, and due back
on Dec. 19, 2001.
35
Another way to search is through keywords. You
can do this with single words or phrases, or by
Boolean operators for a complex search.
36
This is a basic search for the term domestic
abuse.
37
Unfortunately, there were no works with domestic
abuse as the keyword. This search failed and I
would have to try new terms.
38
I also tried a different search for books about
Charlemagne.
39
These were the results I got for my Charlemagne
search. It returned five non-fiction books and
three biographies.
40
The final step is Patron Maintenance, which is
chosen from the main menu. As with Cataloging,
this option requires a password for security
purposes. This is the main menu for patron
maintenance. To delete or change a patron
information, choose Option 1.
41
This is the main screen to Add/Update patrons.
To add a name you would choose add, but to delete
a patron choose name.
42
If I were going to delete my patron record, I
would type in my last name.
43
That would bring up my patron record. To delete
from here, simply press F8.
