How I spent my Co-op SummerThis screen shows
work I did before I came to class Oct. 7, 2002.
3
This is the second of two screens to log into
Voyager and then into the circulation module, one
of 7 modules
4
It will ask for your operator id and your
password. The system requires that you change
your password on a regular basis.
5
This is the screen that will appear. Note the
varied options that you can work with. Be aware
that we will not be able to work with all areas
as this is actually a structured training module.
6
We will first work with patron records, which are
accessed by clicking on Patron. There is a drop
down box which offers several options. We will do
a patron search.
7
This is the screen that appears. Note the choices
you have to reach a particular record. We will
use the name button.
8
The name Donna Smith has been entered. Now, we
will click on Find and see what we come up with.
9
Great! She does have a record here! Note all the
information in the lower half of the screen,
particularly the Proxy Patron choice. What is
that drawer full of cards mean? And that 45that
cant possibly be tryingWell, lets look at the
drawer before that.
10
Tell us its not true, Donna! All three of these
books are past due. So is the next slide going to
tell us that she owes 45?
11
Yikes!!! What are we going to do with her? We
will see later. Note that not only is there the
fee for the book, but a processing fee as well.
12
Now, exploring the Item tab, we see that in
this case, we are exploring the Bib Brief
record of one of Donnas missing books. Note the
other tabs that will give us more information on
this particular book
13
Now, we move on to the next area named Short
Loan. This area allows the library to place a
reservation on an item for a specific time
period. The item is then picked up and charged
out at the scheduled time.
14
The tab marked Reserve is actually for course
reserve items. This Reserve List Search box
appears first.
15
Note here that we have clicked on the Dept,
Name button, then typed in Library.
16
This is the screen used to perform that function.
Unfortunately, it is not available in this
module.
17
Moving on, we find the Discharge choice. From
this screen, you could just scan in the barcode
of a book that Donna wants to check out
18
Unfortunately, we dont know any barcodes, so we
will use the Boolean search option. Note that
rhododendrons has been typed in. Do Search is
then chosen.
19
As you can see, our search brought up three books
on the subject of rhododendrons. Donna is still
new to this area and is interested in reading
about them before she goes to start planting
them. She has chosen the first book because she
had heard that Azaleas are treated the same way .
We have highlighted it and will now click on OK
20
We have now moved to the main Discharge screen.
What is important in this instance is that we now
have the books barcode number. The Discharge
function is used not only in checking out items,
but in checking them back in and issuing
discharge receipts. It brings in overdue or lost
charges and prints receipts as well if so
configured.
21
Now, on to the actual Charge function. You
first identify the patron. In this instance, we
have arbitrarily chosen to use Donnas barcode
number, which can be entered manually or scanned
in.
22
Remember the discharge function? It is pointing
out to us that our Donna has a problem with
overdue or lost items. Notice also that she has
reached the limit. We have the option to
override or cancel them. How do you vote?
Or?
23
OKwe overrode them for now and have moved on to
charging out the book she wants. Here, we have
entered the books barcode manually and not
scanned the item.
24
We hit enter on the last screen and the system
charges the book to Donna. Note that this book is
due back in January of 2003. We can only hope she
doesnt lose this one as well.
25
This is the final stage of the checking out
process. Donnas full record, including the book
she just checked out, is displayed. Note the
options listed at the bottom.
