Of First ImportanceThe Ascension of Christ
  • Luke 2450-53
  • Acts 13-11

3
President BushState of the Union Address
  • We will increasingly focus our efforts on
helping prepare more capable Iraqi security
forces, forces with skilled officers, and an
effective command structure. As those forces
become more self-reliant and take on greater
    security responsibilities, America and its
coalition partners will increasingly be in a
    supporting role.

4
Luke 2450-53
  • When he had led them out to the vicinity of
Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
While he was blessing them, he left them and was
taken up into heaven. Then they worshiped him
and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. And
they stayed continually at the temple, praising
    God.

Acts 13
  • After his suffering, he showed himself to these
men and gave many convincing proofs that he was
alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty
days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

7
1 Corinthians 155-6
  • and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the
Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than
five hundred of the brothers at the same time,
most of whom are still living, though some have
    fallen asleep.

8
Acts 14-5
  • On one occasion, while he was eating with them,
he gave them this command Do not leave
Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father
promised, which you have heard me speak about.
For John baptized with water, but in a few days
you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.

  • Were so reluctant to do what they did. Who has
time to wait? We groan at such a thought. But
waiting doesnt mean inactivity - rather
inHIMactivity. Waiting means watching for him.
If you are waiting on a bus, you are watching for
the bus. If you are waiting on God, you are
watching for God, searching for God, hoping in
    God.

10

  • Great promises come to those who do. But those
who wait on the Lord will find new strength.
They will fly high on wings like eagles. They
will run and not grow weary. They will walk and
    not faint.
  • To those who struggle, God says, Wait on me.

11
Acts 16-9
  • So when they met together, they asked him, Lord,
are you at this time going to restore the kingdom
    to Israel?
  • He said to them It is not for you to know the
times or dates the Father has set by his own
authority. But you will receive power when the
Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
  • After he said this, he was taken up before their
very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

12
The Great Commission

three-fold name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand
    of God.

Acts 110-11
  • They were looking intently up into the sky as he
was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white
stood beside them. Men of Galilee, they said,
why do you stand here looking into the sky? This
same Jesus, who has been taken from you into
heaven, will come back in the same way you have
    seen him go into heaven.

17
2 Timothy 47-8
  • I have fought the good fight, I have finished the
race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in
store for me the crown of righteousness, which
the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me
on that dayand not only to me, but also to all
who have longed for his appearing.

18
O That Will Be Glory
  • When all my labors
  • and trials are oer,
  • And I am safe
  • on that beautiful shore,
  • Just to be near
  • the dear Lord I adore,
  • Will through the ages
  • be glory for me.

19
O That Will Be Glory
  • When, by the gift
  • of His infinite grace,
  • I am accorded
  • in Heaven a place,
  • Just to be there
  • and to look on His face,
  • Will through the ages
  • be glory for me.

20
O That Will Be Glory
  • Friends will be there
  • I have loved long ago
  • Joy like a river
  • around me will flow
  • Yet, just a smile
  • from my Savior I know,
  • Will through the ages
  • be glory for me.

where they were staying. Those present were
Peter, John, James and Andrew Philip and Thomas,
Bartholomew and Matthew James son of Alphaeus
and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.
They all joined together constantly in prayer,
along with the women and Mary the mother of
    Jesus, and with his brothers.

26
Ezekiel 3626-27
  • I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit
in you I will remove from you your heart of
stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will
put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my
decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

27
Acts 236-39
  • Therefore let all Israel be assured of this God
has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both
Lord and Christ. When the people heard this,
they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and
the other apostles, Brothers, what shall we do?

28
Acts 236-39
  • Peter replied, Repent and be baptized, every one
of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for
you and your children and for all who are far
offfor all whom the Lord our God will call.

29
Robert Boyd Munger
  • The body of the believer had become the temple
of the living God. And the human heart had
become the home for Jesus Christ. This wasnt
just some holy explosion of power and then the
Spirit disappeared. He remains with the believer
for the long haul sustaining you on a daily basis
as you call upon Him through this race called
    life.

30
John 167
  • But I tell you the truth It is for your good
that I am going away. Unless I go away, the
Counselor will not come to you but if I go, I
    will send him to you.

31
The Holy Spirit
  • Is An Agent of Peace

32
Heather Mercer
  • I laid underneath thinking that the next bomb
would hit our building and Ive got to tell you
that I have never felt so close to God in all my
    life.
  • It was as if Jesus was holding me.

33
The Holy Spirit
  • Is An Agent of Peace
  • Is Also Personal
  • Ro 826-27

34
Romans 826-27
  • In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our
weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray
for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us
with groans that words cannot express. And he
who searches our hearts knows the mind of the
Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the
saints in accordance with Gods will.

35
The Holy Spirit
  • Is An Agent of Peace
  • Is Also Personal
  • Ro 826-27
  • Is Powerful
  • Ac 413, 2Ti 17, 1Jn 44

36
Acts 413
  • When they saw the courage of Peter and John and
realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,
they were astonished and they took note that
these men had been with Jesus.

37
2 Timothy 17
  • For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but
a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

38
1 John 44
  • You, dear children, are from God and have
overcome them, because the one who is in you is
greater than the one who is in the world.

39
David Blooms Last E-Mail
  • I hope and pray that all my guys get out of this
place in one piece. But Il tell you Mel, I am
at peace. Here I am supposedly at the peak of my
professional success, but frankly I could care
less. Its nothing compared to my relationship
with you and the girls and Jesus Chris.
