2Once upon a time
- A little girl was born
- into a large family in North
- Vancouver, British Columbia.
- She was quiet and shy and
- found it hard to grow well
- in such a crowded and noisy
- environment. But the little girl had
3Some things that made her happy and helped her
grow
- Nature
- Cats
- Music
- Friends
- Family
- A bicycle
- and
- Christmas
4But her favourite thing was reading.
- She read all kinds of books. For awhile she
loved Nancy Drew and the Enid Blyton adventure
series. She also enjoyed picture books, poetry
books, and even encyclopedias!
5When the little girl became a young lady she got
married and started a family of her own.Her
children were very important to her and she gave
so much of her time to them that she sometimes
found it hard to grow
6But she still had some special things that made
her happy and helped her grow
- Children
- Cooking
- Nature
- Crafts
- Music
- Learning
- Friends
- Faith
7But still, her favourite thing to do was read
- Libraries were an important part of her life.
Whenever she and her family moved to a new town,
one of the first things she did was go to the
public library to get a library card. Without
books, the young lady would not have grown much
at all.
8Then, when her children were grown and starting
to live their own lives, the young lady, who was
now in her late thirties, decided to go back to
school. In the next five years she attended
- Medicine Hat College
- University of Victoria
9Libraries were still an important part of her
life for pleasure, learning, and, also, for work
10In fact, the young lady, who is not so very young
anymore, loved libraries so much
- She decided to make libraries her career. So she
moved to Vancouver to attend SLAIS at the
University of British Columbia. - If all goes well, she will soon be a librarian
and books will continue to be an important part
of her life. - And she will continue to grow.
